Description
Sprout Social is looking for a Data Scientist with strong BI and metrics experience to help shape how data informs strategy, innovation, and customer impact across the company — with a focus on our Go-to-Market functions.
Why join Sprout’s Data Science and AI team?
Sprout empowers businesses worldwide to harness the immense power and opportunity of social media in today’s digital-first world. Processing over one billion social messages daily, our platform delivers essential insights and actionable information to over 30,000 brands. These insights drive smarter decisions, accelerate innovation, and foster authentic connections with end customers. Our full suite of social media management solutions includes publishing and engagement tools, customer care, influencer marketing, connected workflows, and business intelligence. We’re also weaving AI throughout our products and applying it internally to accelerate outcomes for our teams and our customers.
You’ll work alongside a growing Data Engineering team that owns the heavy lifting of building certified tables and data pipelines, while you focus on defining metrics, creating clarity, and helping business partners make better decisions.
What you’ll do
- Partner with marketing, finance, product, operations, and customer success to tackle both well-defined and ambiguous business questions.
- Define and document core business metrics in partnership with Data Engineering, collaborating early on table design to ensure metrics are well structured, consistent, and widely adopted across teams.
- Build, modify, and rationalize clear, visually compelling dashboards and self-service reporting (e.g., Tableau, Looker, or similar) that drive decision-making.
- Analyze large datasets to uncover trends, surface opportunities, and generate actionable recommendations.
- Translate complex findings into clear, impactful stories for diverse audiences.
- Use Python or R to perform analysis and statistical modeling, and support experimentation and ad-hoc investigations.
What you’ll bring
You’re a data scientist who thrives at the intersection of business strategy, visual storytelling, and statistical analysis. You’re not just a dashboard builder—you’re a thought partner who asks great questions, dives into ambiguity, and delivers insights that drive decisions.
Minimum Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in a data science or analytics role, collaborating with business stakeholders
- Proficiency in SQL for querying, transforming, and analyzing large, complex datasets
- Proficiency in Python or R for data analysis and statistical modeling
- Expertise in one or more modern BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Looker, Power BI) for dashboard design and self-service analytics.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to turn complex analysis into compelling stories
- Experience defining and driving adoption of business metrics and KPIs
- Ability to scope ambiguous questions into clear, actionable analyses
- Familiarity supporting business domains such as finance, marketing, product, or customer success
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with ML/AI techniques (e.g., regression, clustering, classification, forecasting, or recommendation systems) in a business context
- Experience guiding stakeholders through experimentation and A/B testing
- Familiarity with cloud data environments such as GCP, AWS, or Azure
- Exposure to modern data stack tools (e.g., dbt, Airflow, data catalogs) — strong partnership with Data Engineering expected.
- Experience administering or configuring BI platforms (e.g., Tableau Server, Looker, Power BI) is a plus.
