Product Manager - Payments

Job description

About Wander

Wander pioneered the “hotelification” of vacation rentals—combining the quality of a luxury hotel with the comfort of a private home—and is expanding a vertically integrated, end-to-end travel platform across trips, experiences, and concierge.

About the role

We’re hiring a Product Manager to own the Payments stack across our booking flows, in-stay charges, refunds/disputes, and partner payouts, and to partner deeply with Finance on reconciliation, revenue recognition, taxation, and audit-ready controls. You’ll drive roadmap, implementation, and ongoing optimization for payment acceptance, risk, cost, and financial accuracy—powering use cases from consumer bookings to corporate retreats and partner payouts.

What you’ll do

  • Own the payments & finops roadmap: acceptance, refunds, disputes/chargebacks, payouts, taxes/fees, and financial data integrity.

  • Partner with Finance on GL mapping, automated reconciliation to settlements, revenue recognition, month-end close, and audit trails.

  • Improve acceptance & CX: raise auth rates, reduce false declines, optimize retry/cascade logic, and add wallet/payment methods where impactful.

  • Reduce cost & risk: monitor processor and network fees; implement risk/fraud controls and dispute workflows; track chargeback rate and recovery.

  • Build payouts for partners/suppliers with compliant onboarding (KYC), transparent statements, and predictable funding timelines.

  • Support B2B flows (e.g., Wander Teams/retreats): invoices, deposits, staged payments, and AR automation.

  • Instrument the numbers: define and monitor KPIs—auth/acceptance rate, cost per txn, refund SLA, chargeback rate & win-rate, reconciliation completion time, revenue leakage.

  • Ship with Engineering & Data: crisp specs, PRD/QA/readiness, analytics you trust, and post-launch iteration.

Who you are

  • Have prior hands-on software engineering experience or have founded a company (built 0→1 products, shipped to users, and owned technical decisions).

  • 5+ years as a PM (3+ focused on payments/fintech), shipping production systems at scale.

  • Fluency in the card lifecycle (auth/capture/settlement), decline codes, tokenization, fraud/risk, and disputes/chargebacks.

  • Experience with refunds, credits, split payments, ledgers/GL export, and reconciliation to processor settlements.

  • Comfortable partnering with Finance on revenue recognition, close, and audit-ready controls; can talk to both engineers and accountants.

  • Quantitative: SQL or similar; can frame experiments and analyze impact.

  • Bias to action, crisp writing, high agency.

Nice to haves

  • Hospitality/travel, marketplace, or subscription/recurring payments background.

  • Payment orchestration (multi-PSP), wallets, network tokens, 3DS/SCA experience.

  • Tax determination engines (sales/occupancy), invoicing/AR flows.

  • Compliance exposure (PCI/SOC2) and KYC/AML for payouts.

Success looks like

  • ↑ Authorization/acceptance rate; ↓ cost per transaction and false declines.

  • T-0/T-1 reconciliation with automated break detection and clear ownership.

  • Reliable, transparent payouts and Finance-ready reporting with fewer manual touches.
