Analytics and Command & Control (C2) Mission Engineer Summer Internship

STR’s Analytics and C2 Division builds robust, scalable systems to support intelligence analysts and military decision makers. We apply cutting-edge research to solve problems like object detection and recognition, coordination of autonomous vehicles, detection of manipulated social or traditional media, decision support for mission planning, and pattern learning and anomaly detection. We collaborate with academic and industry partners to deliver high quality, high impact technologies to our customers. You will work in the Mission Applications Group where we deliver cutting-edge technology to a variety of operational areas and transition hardened software capabilities to the warfighter.

Job Description:

  • You will work as part of a project team with focused mentorship from experienced staff.
  • You will collaborate with technical experts to solve problems within the Analytics and C2 Division as part of the Mission Applications Group.
  • You will have the opportunity to support projects in various phases of development, from problem design to development of prototype algorithms and systems, experimentation and data analysis, and system implementation/integration for test and fielded systems.
  • As a Mission Engineer, you will have an opportunity to liaise with STR personnel directly with Department of Defense customers, learning about the problems, and delivering technology to improve mission capability.

Requirements:

  • Enrollment in a BS/BA, MS or PhD degree program in computer science, data science, electrical engineering, physics, mathematics, or related technical discipline.
  • Strong academic record and interest in research.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: software development (e.g., Java), data processing, software test, scientific computing skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB, C++), DevOps skills (Docker, Ci/CD pipelines, AWS, etc.)
  • This position is located in our Carlsbad, SD office and applicants should expect to be in the office most days.  When not required in the office, the Mission Engineer may take advantage of STR remote work policies.
