Senior Software Engineer Kubernetes/Infra as Code

Job description

The Datadog Agent is software that runs on customer infrastructure and supports a wide range of platforms. It collects observability data from hosts and sends them to Datadog, where our customer can analyze their monitoring and performance data. Agent Onboarding team is responsible for developing and maintaining tooling for deploying and managing Agents across a wide infrastructure spectrum. As a Senior Software Engineer you will improve the user experience of onboarding with Datadog by building and maintaining the tools that install and manage the Agent across bare metal, VMs, containers, and Kubernetes. The majority of your work will focus on our Kubernetes Operator, which is central to how many of our largest customers deploy the Agent. You’ll also maintain integrations with tools like Ansible, Puppet, and Chef, ensuring customers can reliably deploy the Agent using their existing systems.

At Datadog, we place value in our office culture - the relationships and collaboration it builds and the creativity it brings to the table. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our Datadogs can create a work-life harmony that best fits them.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead development and ongoing maintenance of the Kubernetes Operator that manages the Agent lifecycle; this is a core product and central to supporting our largest customer segment
  • Own and improve the Helm chart and related tooling for deploying the Agent into Kubernetes clusters
  • Maintain and evolve the tooling used to deploy and manage the Agent across a broad set of environments: VMs, hosts, macOS, and containers using open-source software delivery tooling such as Ansible, Puppet, and shell scripts
  • Contribute to and maintain open-source repositories; respond to issues, review community contributions, and ensure the projects remain stable and usable
  • Work closely with product and engineering teams to shape the roadmap and deliver solutions that integrate cleanly into a variety of infrastructure setups

Who You Are:

  • A seasoned engineer with 5+ years of software development experience
  • Experienced in building and maintaining infrastructure-related tooling and systems
  • Proficient at least in one programming language.
  • Able to work across a variety of environments and automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, packaging systems, shell scripts)
  • Interested in learning or deepening your experience with Kubernetes Operators
  • Eager to work in open-source, including maintaining repositories and supporting a community of users and contributors
  • Collaborative and pragmatic, with a focus on building solutions that work across diverse customer setups
  • Nice to have: exposure to orchestration platforms, Golang

Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand not everyone will meet all the above qualifications on day one. That’s okay. If you’re passionate about technology and want to grow your skills, we encourage you to apply.

Benefits and Growth:

  • New hire stock equity (RSUs) and employee stock purchase plan (ESPP)
  • Continuous professional development, product training, and career pathing
  • Intradepartmental mentor and buddy program for in-house networking
  • An inclusive company culture, ability to join our Community Guilds (Datadog employee resource groups)
  • Access to Inclusion Talks, our internal panel discussions
  • Free, global mental health benefits for employees and dependents age 6+
  • Competitive global benefits
