The Mission of the AOCS Software & GNC Engineer

You ensure that our satellites always point towards the right direction enabling high-quality images.

This role is essential for maximizing the operational time and performance of ICEYE’s satellite constellations. By improving satellite agility, optimizing pointing accuracy, and ensuring the reliability of the Attitude and Orbit Control Systems (AOCS), this role directly increases the quality of the Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data we deliver to our customers. This is the core “why” - to elevate our mission success and make our services consistently available.

The Senior AOCS/Robotics Engineer acts as the ultimate guardian of AOCS health and predictability. The role achieves this by proactively enhancing hardware selection and anomaly resolution processes, and by bringing deep, systematic control systems expertise to troubleshooting in-orbit issues. Crucially, the engineer will also make AOCS knowledge clear across the organization, enabling faster, data-driven decisions that strengthen the entire engineering team and standardize reliable operations.

Who We Are

ICEYE delivers space-based intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities to governments and allied nations. This includes sovereign and turnkey ISR missions leveraging ICEYE’s world-leading synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite technology, as well as access to data from the world’s largest SAR satellite constellation. These capabilities enable partners to detect and respond to critical changes anywhere on Earth with unprecedented speed and accuracy – day or night and in any weather, supported by ultra high-resolution imagery and high-frequency revisits.

As a trusted partner for defense, intelligence, security, and maritime domain awareness, ICEYE’s near real-time data creates a tactical advantage for mission-critical operations. Designed for dual use, the platform also serves civil protection and commercial users for natural-catastrophe intelligence, insurance, maritime monitoring (including oil-spill detection), and finance, contributing to global security and community resilience.

ICEYE operates internationally with offices in Finland, Poland, Spain, Japan, the UAE, Greece, and the US. The company has more than 900 employees, inspired by the shared vision of improving life on Earth by becoming the global source of truth in Earth Observation.

  • Maximized AOCS Availability: By careful hardware selection, systemic improvements to automatic anomaly resolution processes and finally going hands-on with an oscilloscope in electronics lab the role ensures that satellite constellations delivered by ICEYE are operational and always available for imaging.
  • Increased Imaging Performance and Mission Success: The role will directly drive higher quality SAR data and mission success by optimizing satellite agility and pointing accuracy through hardware selection and systemic improvements.
  • Enhanced Organizational AOCS Proficiency: By making AOCS domain knowledge transparent and accessible across the organization, the role will foster data-driven decision-making and enable more efficient, informed cross-functional support, ultimately making the entire organization more effective.
  • Robust and Predictable AOCS Operations: The establishment of well-defined and accepted processes for anomaly handling, resolution, and AOCS component acceptance ensures predictable, reliable, and standardized operations.
