About the Role:

Wing is looking for a Senior Battery and Power Systems Engineer to join our Aircraft Development team.This role is hybrid based in Palo Alto, CA. As a member of this interdisciplinary team of mechanical, mechatronics, and aeronautical engineers, you will develop the next generation of aircraft and ground support equipment systems that advance the scalability of Wing’s delivery business.

What You’ll Do:

  • Translate business and product requirements into technical requirements to build system architecture definitions.
  • Identify and validate key technologies to enable future aircraft and charging system capabilities through research, prototyping, and testing.
  • Define use cases and requirements for next-generation aircraft and charging systems, focusing on increased reliability, reduced operating costs, and improved automation.
  • Define and execute test plans for functional verification, long term reliability, and fault tolerance.
  • Conduct trade studies and rapidly prototype and evaluate charging system, battery, and aircraft power system concepts.
  • Perform data analysis and generate engineering documentation (design drawing, documents, test plans, procedures and reports).
  • Collaborate across diverse teams to meet safety, business, reliability, and certification requirements.

What You’ll Need:

  • 8+ years of design experience in power electronics and battery systems
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering/Computer Hardware Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Experience with battery chemistries and power distribution systems for mid- to high-power vehicle applications.
  • Proven track record developing charging systems for electric vehicles (e.g. electric cars, aircraft, UAVs) including integration and testing, packaging and environmental qualifications.
  • Familiarity with safety critical systems and the policies, specifications and regulatory guidelines that define them.
  • Solid understanding of size, weight, power constraints of small UAS.
  • Demonstrated experience in the evaluation, testing, and characterization of lithium-ion batteries and Battery Management Systems (BMS).
  • Hands-on experience with lab equipment for testing and debugging power electronics, motors, and battery systems (e.g., oscilloscopes, power analyzers, dynamometers, battery cyclers).
  • Applied experience with interface technologies: CAN, USB, I2C, RS232, and ethernet
  • Experience with Python, Matlab, or another programming language for data analysis and modeling.
  • Strong technical communication/presentation skills and attention to detail.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is the salary range below + bonus + equity + benefits. Wing’s salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your location during the hiring process.

Salary Range

$196,000—$208,000 USD
