CREATIVITY IS OUR SUPERPOWER. It’s our heritage and it’s also our future. Because we don’t just make toys. We create innovative products and experiences that inspire fans, entertain audiences and develop children through play. Mattel is at its best when every member of our team feels respected, included, and heard—when everyone can show up as themselves and do their best work every day. We value and share an infinite range of ideas and voices that evolve and broaden our perspectives with a reach that extends into all our brands, partners, and suppliers.

Job Description

The Opportunity:

Mattel is seeking a versatile 2D Concept & Marketing Artist who brings a creative flair to both in-game visual concepts and marketing/UA asset production. This unique hybrid role focuses on:

  • Concept Art: Crafting compelling 2D characters, props, environments, and key-art visuals that inform production pipelines.
  • Marketing & UA Design: Producing polished, performance-driven ad assets—banners, icons, screenshots, social ads—for UA campaigns and store presence.

You’ll join our art team, reporting to the Art Director with a dotted-line relationship with the Senior Manager of Growth, collaborating with products, UA, and creative teams.

What Your Impact Will Be:

  • Develop and iterate 2D art assets (characters, props, environments, UI concepts) aligned with creative briefs.

  • Produce thumbnails, mood boards, and polished key-art for external developers and pitch decks, aligning to Mattel’s brands.

  • Demonstrate a flexible artistic approach, adapting easily across multiple art styles and genres.

  • Ensure brand consistency and adherence to style guidelines across all assets, whether produced internally or by external partners.

  • Design impactful marketing creatives: app-store banners, splash screens, social-media ads, and UA campaign visuals.

  • Collaborate with UA managers to create A/B test-ready creatives optimized for conversion, and work with analytics and production teams to iterate designs based on performance data.

  • Adapt UA art compositions/formats for multiple platforms.

  • Work closely with production, participate in brainstorming, sprint planning, and pipeline reviews.

  • Maintain deadlines, delivering assets in a timely manner.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For:

  • BA/BS in Illustration, Graphic Design, Fine Arts, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years as a 2D Concept Artist, ideally in game/art pipeline environments.
  • 2+ years designing UA or promotional game assets (e.g., banners, icons).
  • Exceptional digital painting, strong composition, visual storytelling; proficiency from thumbnails to final art.
  • Strong proficiency in industry-standard art software (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, Figma, Maya, Unity).
  • Strong communicator within cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Proactively incorporate feedback, take swift action, and provide timely updates without prompting.
  • Data/marketing-savvy including basic analytics for UA creative insights.
  • Exceptional organizational, multitasking, and time management skills, with a commitment to meeting deadlines and maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Ability to manage a high volume of assets and keep files clean.
  • An enthusiastic attitude, adaptability, and eagerness to collaborate effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • A portfolio demonstrating both concept-art and marketing assets formatted for UA/store use.
  • Demonstrated a growth mindset by staying curious and continuously learning, embracing challenges, and improving themselves.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have):

  • Experience with IP and maintaining brand fidelity.
  • Skills in animation for key UA assets.
  • Aid in visual storytelling via storyboards or promo visuals.
  • Experience working in Unreal.

The annual base salary range for this position is between $79,000 and $116,000.

**This range is indicative of projected hiring range, however annual base salary will be determined based on a candidate’s work location, skills and experience. Mattel offers competitive total pay programs, comprehensive benefits, and resources to help empower a culture where every employee can reach their full potential.
