🚀 About Nava Benefits

Nava Benefits is one of the fastest growing benefits brokerages in America and the first to fuse cutting edge technology with benefits expertise to deliver an end to end benefits solution for growing businesses. Through better renewal strategy, benefits back-office support, and a modern member experience, employers turn to Nava to lower costs, delight employees, and augment HR teams. Nava is driven by the mission to fix healthcare in America, starting with the 160M Americans who get their healthcare through employers. Backed by leading investors and founded by seasoned entrepreneurs, we’re an ambitious group of people transforming the $50B / year benefits brokerage industry, and making a positive impact on the lives of Americans across the country.

Role Overview: As an AI Engineer at Nava, you will own execution of AI technology across our application stack in collaboration with the Product team. Your deep understanding of how to leverage foundation models will position you to work across the full stack - from user interfaces to backend systems - building intelligent software that transforms how HR teams and employees interact with benefits and healthcare systems, as well as empowering our internal consulting teams who work with these complex systems on behalf of clients. At Nava, we believe AI capabilities should be woven throughout the user experience, not bolted on as separate services. You’ll build AI as core application features using direct API integration with foundation models, modern web frameworks, and scalable cloud infrastructure.

🧠 Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with product, engineering, and design to identify customer and team pain points and build generative AI solutions using software engineering best practices
  • Work across the full stack - frontend, backend, and infrastructure - integrating AI capabilities directly into applications
  • Build intelligent search and retrieval systems that help users find relevant information quickly
  • Design effective interactions with foundation models (GPT-4, Claude, Gemini) to achieve reliable behaviors
  • Ship AI-powered features with the same reliability and performance standards as any other application components

🖊️ Preferred Experience:

  1. 5+ years developing modern full-stack web applications on client- and server- side web applications with Python and JavaScript/TypeScript.
  2. Hands-on experience building applications with foundation models through direct API integration
  3. Proven ability to work with product, engineering, and design teams to identify user problems and translate them into technical solutions, leading the initiative for how to build delightful AI (generative) solutions
  4. Comfortable working across the full application stack
  5. Strong communication skills for working with cross-functional teams that are not on the technology side of the business
  6. An understanding of how to use tool calling, multi agents, etc. and some excitement about MCPs
  7. Working experience with Machine Learning (PyTorch, scikit-learn), training/deploying models with proprietary or Open Source models

☄️ Our Tech Stack:

  • Frontend: React / Vite / Next.js
  • Backend: Node / Nest.js / Express.js
  • API: REST / Graphql
  • AI: OpenAI / Anthropic / different AI platforms, Langfuse
  • Database: Postgres
  • Data Platforms: Salesforce, Airbyte, Dagster, Parabola, DBT
  • Infrastructure: AWS
  • Dev AI assistants: GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code
