Material Bank is seeking a Director of Material Catalog to lead the strategy and development of the world’s most comprehensive material catalog for the A&D industry. This person will shape how designers worldwide discover, evaluate, and specify materials.

As leader of a focused team, the Director will oversee catalog structure, data mapping, content quality, and attribute enrichment, ensuring a user experience that meets the expectations of the world’s most discerning designers. They will establish the taxonomy, nomenclature, and governance framework that underpins the platform.

Success in this role requires not only a deep understanding of the material landscape and the nuances of each category, but also a genuine passion for A&D materials. Supported by data scientists, machine learning engineers, and advanced AI tools, the Director will guide the expansion of a future-ready catalog that sets the industry standard.

What You’ll Do:

Catalog Development & Governance:

  • Define standards for material data across all categories, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and usability.
  • Establish and manage catalog taxonomy, nomenclature, and attribute schemas.
  • Serve as the authority on coding and enrichment strategies, with emphasis on output and user experience.

Data Collection & Enrichment:

  • Lead data mapping and quality assessments.
  • Guide AI and machine learning tools for categorization, enrichment, and validation.
  • Direct the structuring of documentation including certifications, installation methods, and compliance requirements.
  • Manage partnerships with third-party data providers to expand catalog breadth and depth.

Optimization & Insights:

  • Monitor and improve material coding, searchability, and discoverability.
  • Identify opportunities to automate and streamline data processes.
  • Partner with product, engineering, and data teams to drive catalog performance.

Expertise & Quality:

  • Ensure the catalog delivers expert-level experiences for A&D professionals.
  • Stay current with material innovations, sustainability trends, and industry standards.
  • Gather user insights to refine taxonomy and improve navigation.
  • Enrich adjacent knowledge bases to support prompt-based search and AI-driven discovery.

Qualifications:

  • True passion for A&D materials
  • 10+ Years of proven experience as a material librarian, specification writer, sourcing agent, or related data expert.
  • Deep knowledge of material categories, performance criteria, sustainability, and compliance.
  • Hands-on experience managing complex databases and large datasets.
  • Strong grasp of emerging technologies including AI, machine learning, and automation.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and communication skills; able to connect deep subject expertise with technical execution.
  • Demonstrated ability to set and uphold a high bar for quality.
