Job Description

What you’d be doing in this role

As the Engineering Manager for Global Payments, you’ll be at the heart of Canva’s financial technology revolution. Leading a talented team, you’ll architect systems that process billions of transactions globally, ensuring reliability, scalability, and innovation at every step.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

  • Leading the design and delivery of next-gen payment systems handling 10x current volume
  • Architecting fault-tolerant, high-throughput payment infrastructure with smart routing and fraud prevention
  • Building strong partnerships with payment service providers like Stripe and Adyen to unlock new capabilities
  • Cultivating a high-performing team culture with coaching, growth, and innovation
  • Driving operational excellence with robust monitoring, incident response, and reliability standards
  • Navigating global payment complexities, including compliance, multi-currency flows, and local payment methods

You’re probably a match if you have:

  • Proven success in leading backend teams, building distributed systems at scale
  • A track record of developing talent and shipping impactful systems
  • You excel at solving global challenges with data-driven decision making and architectural insight
  • the ability to thrive high-impact environments and are excited to shape the future of payments technology
  • the strength of being a collaborative leader who builds bridges across teams and disciplines to drive results
  • Expertise in payment processing or financial infrastructure would be highly beneficial, but not a deal breaker

About the team

You’ll join the Revenue Platform group in Growth, the engine behind Canva’s monetisation at scale. Our Global Payments team powers billions of transactions in 190+ countries, innovating payment routing, fraud prevention, and real-time payment optimisation to fuel Canva’s journey to 1 billion monthly active users.
