Job Description
WHAT’S THE JOB?
The Remote Fire Camp Operations Driver is responsible for providing safe, reliable and on-schedule transportation for our staff supporting fire camp operations, while providing support in other areas as needed within the fire basecamp operations.
Y ou must be comfortable working in a remote bush camp setting. Bush camps are often hours away from any town, with limited to no cell reception and Wi-Fi. Must be comfortable sleeping in a tent and living in the outdoors as accommodations can range from a lodge to a tent depending on the site.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide safe and timely transportation of staff, supplies, or equipment between designated pick up areas to and from, and within the fire basecamp operations, including to and from the accommodation units.
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections, maintain digital vehicle logs, and report deficiencies immediately.
- Ensure vehicle is clean, fueled, and stocked with required safety/emergency equipment
- Operate vehicle in compliance with company policies and Highway Traffic Act, obliging to bush road protocols, speed limits, signage, and traffic protocols
- Maintain clear communication with dispatch or supervisors while on duty, including Road Radio Protocol on bush roads
- Use fuel cards responsibly and track mileage and work hours accurately
- Support general labour tasks around the fire camp when not driving, as needed
Qualifications
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (minimum) with clean driver’s abstract is required
- Previous experience transporting personnel is required
- Strong attention to detail and well-organized
- Ability to prioritize multiple task demands and organize a work schedule
- Familiar and experienced driving in bush road areas and road safety
- Experienced with Road Radio Protocol on bush roads
- Ability to commit to a minimum 2 week rotation
- Comfortable working and staying in rustic, remote settings and accommodations
- Ability to handle the following physical demands:
- Lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 lbs
- Climb ladders or stairs
- Stand, walk, squat, kneel or sit according to task for extended periods of time
- Perform repetitive hand work requiring full use of both hands
- Perform work with arms at full length
- Work with arms above shoulder height

Work schedule and remuneration:
Fire camp workers must have the ability to commit to a minimum 2-3 week rotation. Site locations are in remote bush settings and may require tent accommodations dependent on the location of the fire activity in the region. You may be required to work nights, weekdays, weekends, and general holidays. Wages are paid on an hourly basis and include a starting rate of $22.50-$23.50.
