Position Summary: We are seeking a curious, driven, tech-savvy and proactive HR Analyst to join our growing Series B tech startup We are seeking a curious, driven, and highly analytical HR/Compensation Data Specialist to join our Series B tech startup on a contractor basis for 6 months. This role will be heavily focused on Compensation & Analytics, advanced work in Excel/Google Sheets, and automating operational People processes. This role will be responsible for building and maintaining dashboards, running data analyses, and streamlining workflows to support the People function. It’s a great fit for someone with strong technical skills, a problem-solving mindset, and a passion for people data. You’ll work closely with Total Rewards, HRBPs, Talent, and other stakeholders to ensure data quality, build scalable tools, and surface insights that shape our People strategy. This is not a managerial role, but a critical specialist position within the People Analytics & Ops function.

The impact you will have:

  • Analyze compensation and people data (e.g., pay bands, headcount, attrition) to identify patterns, trends, and risks.
  • Build, improve, and maintain advanced dashboards and reports in Google Sheets and Looker Studio for stakeholders across People.
  • Automate manual People Ops processes (e.g., data cleaning, report generation) using tools like Google Apps Script, Python, or no-code platforms.
  • Audit and reconcile compensation and people data from systems like Rippling, Greenhouse, and Google Sheets databases to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Support compensation cycles with data preparation, analysis, and reporting under tight deadlines.
  • Partner with People Ops to design and implement scalable workflows that reduce manual effort.

What we’re looking for:

  • HR/Compensation Data Experience: 3+ years in People Analytics, Compensation, or similar HR data-heavy roles. Experience with HR systems like Rippling or Greenhouse is a plus.
  • Analytical & Technical Skills: Expert-level proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets (complex formulas, pivot tables, data analysis, automation).
  • Data Proficiency: Strong hands-on experience cleaning, transforming, and analyzing structured datasets. Experience with SQL or scripting (Python, Apps Script) is highly valued.
  • Automation Mindset: Experience streamlining workflows using automation tools (e.g., Google Apps Script, Zapier, Python).
  • Detail-Oriented: Ability to spot and fix inconsistencies, and to build clean, scalable solutions.
  • Clear Communicator: Able to explain data logic and findings to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Adaptable & Proactive: Thrives in a fast-paced environment and takes ownership without heavy supervision.

  • Build a ‘Minimum Viable’ Dashboard (skateboard) in One Week: Instead of waiting to collect every single data input or stakeholder request, the specialist launches a first version of a dashboard in just a few days—focused on 80% of the value using the most critical metrics. This allows stakeholders to begin using the data immediately, and gives space to iterate based on real feedback rather than assumptions.
  • Conducting Fast, Actionable Analyses for Leadership: A request comes in on a Monday to understand attrition patterns among high performers. By Tuesday, the specialist delivers a clean, directional analysis highlighting key risk areas—without waiting for the “perfect” dataset. By acting fast, leadership gets early insights that shape immediate decisions, with a follow-up deep-dive planned once priorities are clear.
  • Automating Manual Processes Under Tight Deadlines: When a compensation cycle or performance review is approaching, the specialist proactively builds a lightweight automation (e.g., using Apps Script or Zapier) in just a few hours to eliminate a repetitive manual task—like data cleaning or email generation. Even if it’s not the long-term solution, the quick win immediately reduces workload and errors while buying time for future refinement.
