Location:

We have offices in New York, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, and Gurgaon. We welcome you to work in any of our offices, but you also have the opportunity to work from home.

About the role:

The Healthy by Reader’s Digest(print and digital) is seeking a U.S.-based Senior Editor who can help us develop and optimize medical, health, and lifestyle content for TheHealthy.com and its section within Reader’s Digest print magazine. Reporting to the Deputy Editor, this key contributor to our enthusiastic, hard-working team possesses a blend of writing and editing skills, an understanding of the roles that health advice and guidance play in shaping culture and critical personal choices, and a commitment to separating facts from misinformation. A data-driven journalist and organized project manager, the Senior Editor plays an active role in guiding stories and projects from conception through publication and performance reporting.

About you:

You are a sharp writer and editor with at least six years’ experience creating and fact-checking editorial content, with a minimum of two years in the consumer health space. You have a positive, optimistic attitude and highly collaborative spirit, along with experience analyzing content performance data to plan editorial lineups that drive traffic and engagement. Passionate about health and wellness, you have a track record of delivering high-quality editorial content on deadline.  You’re also metrics-motivated, a true team player with strong organization skills, and a willingness to adjust plans to meet business priorities.

Your Day-to-Day:

  • Assign, write and publish breaking health news
  • Produce content in WordPress and report out performance data as requested
  • Assist with writing, producing, routing, and providing brand-standard direction on special assets for weekly celebrity interviews
  • Play a key part in editorial strategy by guiding and tracking assignments, performing SEO research, and working with the Deputy Editor to lead team members through brainstorms, outlines, pitching and content creation, ensuring project deadlines are met
  • Write, edit, proofread and refresh content with an eye for the latest search-relevant best practices with promising performance potential on social and other channels
  • Field writers’ pitches and prioritize and schedule assignments
  • Promote content via channels as assigned
  • Lead social media production and promotion using design and social scheduling tools
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (partnerships, sales and marketing, etc.) to lead the development of creative assets and campaigns
  • Balance multiple projects simultaneously
  • Tackle assignments with daily direction from Deputy Editor
  • Collaboratively complete other duties as assigned

You Have:

  • 6+ years of experience writing and/or editing digital content
  • 2+ years in health, medicine, or science content
  • 2+ years focused on SEO research using a tool such as SEMRush to assign and structure new content and updates to evergreen or seasonal content, and experience implementing SEO best practices while maintaining editorial quality
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, media, marketing or related field or with health or medical accreditation
  • Strong understanding of the digital landscape, including SEO strategy and performance metrics
  • Familiarity with WordPress, basic HTML, Google Docs, Microsoft Excel, and other spreadsheet-style programs
  • Skills in organizing and managing multiple projects at the same time while thinking creatively, setting priorities, and changing course as needed
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of an evolving team
  • Familiarity with, and interest in, the health and wellness lifestyle space
  • Experience in print publishing a plus
