Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior PHP/WordPress Developer to join our team and lead the transition from a proprietary CMS to a decoupled WordPress architecture hosted on WordPress VIP. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in high-traffic media environments, has deep technical expertise, and enjoys collaborating across disciplines to deliver scalable, performant, and elegant solutions.
Responsibilities and Duties
Lead the migration from a proprietary CMS to a decoupled WordPress setup on WordPress VIP;
Design and develop custom WordPress themes and plugins with a focus on performance, security, and scalability;
Build and integrate REST and GraphQL APIs to support dynamic content delivery and editorial workflows;
Optimize backend systems using tools like Elasticsearch, Memcached, Redis, and CDN-level caching;
Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and engineers to define and implement architectural solutions;
Mentor junior developers and contribute to code reviews and technical documentation;
Ensure code quality, accessibility, and adherence to best practices;
Participate in the interview process and provide feedback on technical and soft skills assessments.
Essential Skills
Proven experience with PHP and advanced WordPress development (themes, plugins, hooks, filters);
Hands-on experience with decoupled/headless WordPress architectures and WordPress VIP hosting;
Strong proficiency in building and consuming REST and GraphQL APIs;
Experience working in enterprise-scale, high-traffic media environments;
Familiarity with performance optimization tools such as Elasticsearch, Memcached, Redis, and CDNs;
Ability to lead architectural decisions and collaborate cross-functionally;
Highly Desirable Skills
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment workflows;
Knowledge of web security best practices and OWASP guidelines;
Familiarity with automated testing frameworks (e.g., PHPUnit, Jest);
Experience with agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban).
