Role description
We are focused on creating a state-of-the-art, real-time, soft-body physics engine and making it widely available for entertainment and industry purposes. Our most widely known product is our game BeamNG.drive, which is now available on Steam in Early Access.
To support our ongoing and future development plans, we are seeking a Senior Porting Programmer with extensive experience in porting custom engines to console platforms. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with strong C++ skills and a deep understanding of low-level rendering APIs. You will take ownership of porting projects, ensuring seamless adaptation of our engine to various consoles while maintaining high performance and reliability.
Responsibilities
Port custom engines for console platforms, focusing on programming rather than asset modification.
Enhance third-party libraries for optimal performance on target platforms.
Develop abstraction layers for filesystem management and system-level integrations.
Optimise low-level rendering APIs like DirectX 12 and Vulkan for improved performance.
Resolve compiler issues to boost build processes and runtime performance.
Set up and maintain CI automation pipelines for efficient development.
Overcome DevOps challenges to integrate new libraries and platforms smoothly.
Collaborate with external partners to support porting and resolve platform-specific issues.
Foster proactive team communication through active participation and discussion tracking.
Take ownership of porting projects, ensuring successful completion with minimal oversight.
Manage tasks effectively to meet deadlines and maintain quality standards.
Stay updated on advancements in engine technology and rendering techniques.
Quickly learn and adapt to new technologies as project needs change.
Expertise in transitioning custom game engines to console platforms, prioritising programming skills.
Proficient in adapting third-party libraries for effective platform compatibility.
Experience in creating abstraction layers for file systems and window interfaces on new platforms.
Knowledge of low-level rendering APIs like DirectX 12 and Vulkan.
Skilled in automating continuous integration processes and understanding DevOps methodologies.
Strong command of C++ for efficient and maintainable code.
Experience with compiler optimisation techniques and debugging.
Proven ability to independently manage projects with minimal oversight.
Eagerness to learn and embrace the unique challenges presented by a physics engine simulation game: just like us.
Outstanding command of English, both spoken and written.
Nice to have
Experience developing and porting applications on Linux platforms.
Familiarity with additional platforms beyond primary consoles.
Knowledge of advanced DevOps tools and practices, including containerization and orchestration.
Contributions to open-source projects related to engine development or porting.
