Junior Cloud Systems Engineer

Job description

Jr. Systems Engineer

Role Type: 24-Month Contract (W2 or 1099)

Location: 100% Remote (Must be U.S. based)

Engagement Policy: No C2C / No 3rd Party Agencies

Role Overview

We are looking for a motivated Cloud Platform Administrator to manage and optimize our enterprise collaboration ecosystems. In this role, you will serve as a key technical resource for Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace, ensuring these platforms remain secure, efficient, and user-friendly. Working alongside senior engineers, you will bridge the gap between high-level cloud architecture and day-to-day operational excellence.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Multi-SaaS Platform Administration

  • Execute core administration for Microsoft 365 (SharePoint, Teams) and Google Workspace, managing site structures, permissions, and service configurations.
  • Manage the full user lifecycle, including automated provisioning/deprovisioning, license optimization, and identity management.
  • Act as a Tier 23 escalation point for complex collaboration, file-sharing, and access-related issues.

2. Automation & DevOps

  • Develop and deploy PowerShell scripts to automate repetitive administrative tasks and monitor cloud resource health.
  • (Preferred) Utilize GAM (Google Apps Manager) scripting to streamline Google Workspace management.
  • Maintain and refine automated workflows for employee onboarding and offboarding.

3. Governance, Security & Documentation

  • Partner with senior leadership to implement best practices for Data Loss Prevention (DLP), Conditional Access, and overall cloud governance.
  • Draft enterprise-wide communications for platform updates and manage formal Change Control requests to ensure system stability.
  • Author and maintain technical “Runbooks,” standard operating procedures (SOPs), and configuration logs.

4. Performance & Reliability

  • Proactively monitor platform performance, usage trends, and security logs across both Microsoft and Google environments.
  • Support ongoing infrastructure improvements, including patches, configuration hardening, and reliability testing.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: 2+ years in Systems Administration or Cloud Engineering roles.
  • Platform Expertise: Hands-on experience as an administrator for SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, or the broader M365 suite.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in PowerShell for cloud service automation is required.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional documentation habits and the ability to communicate technical changes to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience managing Google Workspace in a corporate environment.
  • Familiarity with Oracle Cloud (OCI) environments.
  • Experience with Identity and Access Management (IAM) protocols.

Key Improvements Made:

  • Categorization: By grouping duties under headers like “Automation” and “Governance,” you attract candidates who understand the purpose of the tasks rather than just seeing a list of chores.
  • Action Verbs: Used stronger verbs like “Execute,” “Deploy,” “Author,” and “Partner” to elevate the perceived level of the role.
  • Clarity on Tech: Highlighted the hybrid nature of the role (M365 + Google), which is a specific niche that requires a versatile candidate.
  • Focus on Lifecycle: Reframed “hiring and firing” tasks as “User Lifecycle Management,” which is the standard enterprise terminology.
