Job description

New Virginia Majority (NVM), Virginia’s leading civic engagement organization, builds power in

working-class communities of color across the Commonwealth. Our year-round approach to

building power involves organizing issue campaigns for racial, economic, and environmental

justice, conducting year-round mass scale voter outreach and policy advocacy. We seek

conscious and skilled individuals with a deep commitment to racial justice to join our team.

Description:

The fulltime Statewide Solidarity Committee Organizer will lead efforts to organize and direct

allies to take action in solidarity for immigration justice. This role will build a network of trained

allies, coordinate rapid response systems, and support ongoing immigration justice campaigns.

This position reports to the Organizing Director.

Location: Northern Virginia or Richmond (Hybrid, 3 days in the office/field)

Salary Range: $54,000 - $59,000, commensurate with experience, and comes with an

excellent benefits package, including health, vision, dental, and stipends for phone and

transportation.

Key Responsibilities:

● Timely follow up with leads generated by field and digital outreach efforts

● Conduct regular organizing one-on-one meetings with new and interested allies to move

them to action and connect them with appropriate solidarity committees in Northern

Virginia, Richmond, and in other locations to be determined

● Build strong relationships and identify and develop leaders into clear leadership roles

● Support solidarity committee members leading or starting teams across the state with

training, coaching, and admin support, including leading statewide virtual solidarity

committee trainings

● Orient and coach allies to center NVM’s immigrant base rooted in solidarity, not charity,

and develop the political consciousness of allies through political education

● Coordinate solidarity committee efforts statewide, including supporting work on strategic

immigration justice campaigns

● Ongoing data management

● This role may involve travel in Virginia to support local committees

● Other duties as assigned related to this role

Qualifications:

● Required:

○ Committed to New Virginia Majority’s mission of immigration, racial, and

economic justice

○ Experience in community organizing and/or volunteer coordination (1-2 years

preferred)

○ Strong facilitation and training skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences

○ Willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends

● Preferred:

○ Bilingual proficiency (Spanish/English)

○ Experience working in multiracial coalitions

○ Familiarity with digital organizing tools

The Approach:

● Commitment to social and racial justice

● Project coordinator skills - stays on top of multiple projects, plans backwards, anticipates

obstacles, identifies and involves stakeholders appropriately, uses resources wisely

● Results orientation - focus on achievement and producing results (rather than getting

immersed in process)

● Resourceful problem solver - Consistently overcomes challenges and leverages

resources to creatively solve problems. Proposes solutions to issues without much

guidance (but isn’t afraid to ask questions). Proactively asks for help, anticipates

problems, and course-corrects when needed

● Strong sense of ownership & resilience - Plans ahead and finds alternative paths, when

needed, to get to the finish line. Bounces back from setbacks and rejections. Holds a

high bar even when things are hectic.
