Scholarship

Walden University recognizes scholarship as essential to effective teaching and the development of scholar-practitioner students. Faculty are encouraged to engage in scholarship aligned with Walden’s mission. These activities are coordinated with academic leadership, and specific requirements are determined by the program and/or college.

Service

Walden University values service as an integral component of effective teaching and the development of scholar-practitioner students. Faculty members are expected to demonstrate a consistent record of service to the institution and broader community, contributing to the advancement of Walden’s educational mission. Faculty are encouraged to engage in service activities aligned with this mission, benefiting the institution, their profession, and/or the community. These activities are coordinated with academic leadership, with specific requirements determined by the program and/or college.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Faculty adhere to all Walden University faculty expectations as outlined at the time of employment and within the Faculty Handbook.
  • Participation in required virtual and in-person faculty meetings, residencies, workshops, commencement ceremonies, and training sessions.
  • Maintenance of a student-friendly schedule, including availability during evenings and weekends.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • A doctorate in the relevant field of study or a closely related discipline is required.
  • Candidates who can consider diverse, and sometimes conflicting, perspectives are preferred.
  • A demonstrated capacity and willingness to provide individualized instructional support and guidance to students is essential.
  • Application materials should clearly demonstrate alignment with Walden University’s mission and vision.
  • Experience working with doctoral capstone projects focused on problems of practice in the professional work setting is preferred.

Work Experience

  • A minimum of three years of teaching experience is required, or a demonstrated capacity and willingness to cultivate a welcoming and inclusive learning environment that fosters student learning, discussion, and growth.
  • Experience supporting doctoral research committees is required, or a demonstrated capacity and willingness to mentor and support a diverse doctoral student population.
  • Experience with distance learning is preferred.
  • Candidates with experience mentoring doctoral students on capstone projects focused on evidence-based decision-making are preferred.

Additional Information

In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected compensation rate for this position is as follows:

  • Graduate Course Instruction: $1,560 - $4,080 per Quarter or Semester, depending on type of course taught and length of course
  • Undergraduate Course Instruction: $700 - $2,200 per quarter, depending on type of course taught and length of course

Actual pay may be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as type of course taught; experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility. Walden also offers other opportunities for its contributing faculty members, such as dissertation/doctoral study committee chair positions, research reviewing, and dissertation and doctoral study mentoring.
