VetsEZ is currently seeking a Database Administrator (DBA) to join a team to support a project with the Department of Veterans Affairs. This position will provide comprehensive SQL Server and Oracle database administration for both the Corporate Data Warehouse (CDW) and the Data Migration and Management (DMM) environments. The role will support database security, backup/recovery operations, auditing, replication management, performance tuning, and specialized process development, along with Oracle-based extractor operations, database architecture support, and large-scale migration and patching activities.
The candidate must reside within the continental US.
Responsibilities:
- Manage database security and permissions, including removal of elevated access, implementation of the SQLAgentUsers role model, migration to Group Managed Service Accounts (GMSA), and resolution of CSOC scan findings.
- Administer and enhance auditing processes for SQL Server environments, tracking data usage, security changes, and DDL modifications, while maintaining audit log storage and retention compliance.
- Perform enclave data trimming to maintain 10-year data retention limits and ensure compliance with VA policies.
- Oversee SQL Server and Oracle database backups, restores, and validation across CDW, VINCI, and DMM, using PowerShell, T-SQL, and custom recovery processes.
- Conduct SAN migrations, large-scale patching activities, and database recovery operations for systems such as CCRA and blocked sessions.
- Administer Oracle GoldenGate replication, monitor replicants, create monitoring extensions, and maintain feed health for customer data integrations.
- Support CDW-Raw Extractor operations (Oracle, Java, PL/SQL, J2EE) and maintain custom utilities for session management, view detection, and data feed validation.
- Monitor and optimize performance, addressing tempdb usage, blocking sessions, log file growth, and workload balancing.
- Support CDW architecture through table deployments, code management, and automation of SQL Server patching processes.
- Collaborate with developers, system administrators, and data engineers to troubleshoot incidents, resolve complex issues, and participate in regular DBA and architecture team meetings.
- Take on additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to support team objectives and ensure the success of the project.
Requirements:
- Bachelorβs degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 7+ years of DBA experience in large enterprise environments.
- Expert-level SQL Server administration skills, including backup/recovery, replication, security, and performance tuning.
- Experience with Oracle GoldenGate administration and replication monitoring.
- Strong scripting skills in T-SQL and PowerShell for automation of DBA tasks.
- Experience supporting Oracle-based systems, extractors, and related code frameworks (Java, PL/SQL, J2EE).
- Proven ability to develop custom database processes, utilities, and automation workflows.
- Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
Additional Qualifications:
- Prior VA or large federal healthcare environment experience.
- Familiarity with VINCI, CDW, and DMM systems.
- Experience with Group Managed Service Accounts (GMSA).
- Knowledge of compliance frameworks (FISMA, NIST) and enclave data retention strategies.
- Ability to obtain a Government clearance.
