Database Engineer I (Remote Eligible – Select U.S. States)
Location: San Diego, CA (Initial Onsite Training), Remote Available in CA, DC, IN, MD, NC, PA, VA, WA, TX, NY

We’re hiring a Database Engineer I to join a fast-paced, tech-driven team supporting mission-critical systems with zero downtime expectations. This role is perfect for engineers who are passionate about high-scale infrastructure, automation, and working at the intersection of database reliability and cloud technologies.
What You’ll Do
Maintain and improve production database environments (MySQL/Aurora) hosted in cloud platforms like AWS and GCP.
Diagnose and resolve performance issues, outages, and scalability challenges.
Optimize queries, indexes, and database configurations.
Collaborate with development teams to design scalable, efficient schemas.
Own database upgrades, migrations, and capacity planning.
Build internal tools and automation to reduce manual operational effort.
Provide on-call support as part of a pager rotation and respond to critical incidents.
What We’re Looking For
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
Hands-on experience with MySQL and working in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, etc.).
Familiarity with distributed databases and replication strategies.
Comfort with Linux system internals and scripting (Shell, Python, Perl, etc.).
A calm, problem-solving mindset, especially during high-stakes situations.
Clear communication skills for working with remote and global teams.
Nice to Have
2+ years managing MySQL/Percona 5.7⁄8 or Aurora at scale.
Experience with Atlassian tools like Confluence and Jira.
Previous experience in a DBRE or hybrid DBA/SRE environment.

Additional Notes
Candidates must be U.S.-based and able to work PST hours.
This role requires brief initial onsite training (covered travel), typically ranging from 10 days to 3 months.
Bilingual in Mandarin is beneficial due to frequent coordination with teams in China.
Must be comfortable with 24⁄7 on-call support rotations as a subject matter expert.
