Freedom of the Press Foundation (FPF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting, defending, and empowering public-interest journalism, is hiring a development intern to support our fundraising efforts.
Reporting to the grant writer, this position will primarily assist FPF with prospective research and major donor support. In addition, this position will learn to prepare grant materials describing FPF’s major projects and programs.
This opportunity is ideal for someone interested in learning how nonprofit organizations secure funding to support their missions.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research for new funding opportunities from foundations, corporations, individuals, and other nongovernmental agencies
- Write grant reports
- Work on end-of-year campaign collateral
- Prospect research
- Collaborate with the FPF team at large to gather resources of interest to funders
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the grant writer
Qualifications
- Passion for the First Amendment and protecting the press freedom rights of all
- Excellent writing, analytical, verbal, and research skills
- Comfortable and confident working interdepartmentally
- Familiarity with standard journalism practices and ethics preferred
- Open to students entering their junior or senior year of undergraduate study, or currently enrolled in a graduate program
Working with us
Our intern will work a part-time schedule (20 hours/week) for approximately six to eight (6-8) weeks from May-June or June-July, depending on our chosen candidate’s availability. The role is remote first. Candidates in the New York metro area are welcome to work in the office. Note: This role pays $16.50/hour.
This role does not require U.S. citizenship, but you must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. to be considered. FPF does not sponsor employees for work authorization at this time, and the selected candidate will be required to submit proof of authorization.
