Where You Fit In

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Development Manager to support our fundraising efforts, engage with our donors, funders, and broader public, assist with marketing strategies, and help enhance brand awareness. This role is integral to aligning organizational goals with impactful outreach, increased brand awareness, and fundraising initiatives.  Occasional travel for special events and donor meetings is required.

What You’ll Do

Responsibilities:

  • CRM Management. Consistently maintain donor, prospect, and fundraising activity information in our customer relationship management system (currently Bloomerang) and leverage this information to track progress, monitor gaps, and adjust strategy and approach for each team member’s portfolio.

    • Data – Analysis: Regularly assessing individuals’ progress to goals, identifying what is driving and impeding progress, developing solutions to address gaps, and adjusting course as necessary
    • Maintain meticulous records of donor engagement
    • Ensure timely processing and prompt acknowledgement of donations secured
  • Donor Management. Manage, cultivate, and steward a portfolio of donors, ensuring that the CEO and other primary solicitors are well equipped to engage at all stages of the donor life cycle.

    • This includes prepping emails, drafting proposals and thinking strategically about the programmatic initiatives.

    • At the outset, the Development Manager will be expected to assist the CEO and other solicitors with the management, cultivation, and stewardship of donors, and then develop a proven strategy to develop and manage their own portfolio of donors (ranging from $5K to $25K giving levels).

  • Team Collaboration. Collaborate with regional staff to support local ambassadors and create high-touch donor experiences.

    • In partnership with the Executive Team, support the creation and implementation of a new donor acquisition strategy to increase funding from corporations, individuals, and foundations through online giving, funder campaigns, events and proposals.
    • Manage external consultants in marketing and grants to meet revenue goals and elevate brand by expanding local exposure and developing new partnerships.
  • Communication. Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage and build relationships with high-net-worth individuals. Demonstrate strong skills in writing compelling, mission-driven stories that motivate donors and drive philanthropic support.

  • Events. Work with Director of Events to design and implement effective fundraising, networking and cultivation events.

  • Data Analysis and Reporting. Design monthly reports using a variety of engagement metrics to track performance and share insights with leadership. Leverage data to inform and refine development strategies.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 to 4 years in development, preferably within a small to mid-sized organization.
  • Bachelor’s degree.

Skillset:

  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and CRM systems are required (or a willingness to learn). Desktop publishing/graphic design skills preferred (PPT or Canva; or a willingness to learn).
  • Analytical Skills: Entrepreneurial mindset with ability to interpret data and metrics, including fundraising financials, to trouble-shoot and improve development.
  • Autonomy: Demonstrated success working independently in a strategic capacity.
  • Time Management: Ability to effectively balance multiple tasks and priorities in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Cultural Competence: Ability to effectively and respectfully communicate, collaborate, and connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds, identities, and experiences. Preferred experience working in and with racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically marginalized communities.
  • Growth Mindset: A commitment to personal and professional development, consistently striving for improvement.
  • Language Skills: Bilingual proficiency is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to travel for occasional events and donor meetings.
  • Available to travel for annual staff training and company retreat 1 – 2 times a year.

Additional Position Details

This is a full-time, salaried position $55,000-$65,000 and you will be offered a comprehensive benefits package. Yearly compensation for the role depends on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, experience and location.

You will be a remote employee. Slight preference given to employees that live in one of our hub areas: Pittsburgh, PA, Cleveland, OH, Oklahoma City, OK, Houston, TX.

Position may require some evening hours. Anticipate occasional overnight travel throughout the year.
