DevOps and Infra Engineer

at Mento

Job description

About Mento

Mento is a career technology company that helps people be exceptional and thrive at work through human, AI, and software-based coaching.  We’re on a mission to provide people access to the best support, advice, and mentorship at work and empower them to take action on it. In a world where jobs and careers are rapidly changing, we believe that transformational growth and continuous improvement is mandatory for people and companies to thrive. We believe that coaching is the best way to unlock this growth, and we believe everyone deserves access to coaching. We are on a mission to bring our unique model of coaching to every member of the global workforce.

We strive to create a fun, conscientious, collaborative, and supportive work environment and are looking for several team members to join us. We are a remote-first company based in the US, Canada, and Latin America, with $8M raised from leading VCs and angel investors.

About The Role

We’re looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer to build and scale the infrastructure that powers our AI-driven coaching platform. As we grow our user base and expand upmarket, we need someone who can architect and maintain robust, scalable systems that support our complex data pipelines, multiple LLM integrations, and real-time coaching experiences. For this role, we are only hiring candidates in the United States or Canada.

In this role, you’ll join our small-but-mighty engineering team and be the primary architect of our infrastructure strategy, working closely with our AI and product engineers to ensure our platform can scale efficiently while maintaining high availability and security.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement infrastructure-as-code solutions. You’ll be responsible for managing our cloud infrastructure using Terraform, creating reusable modules and maintaining environments that can be easily replicated and scaled across development, staging, and production.
  • Scale and optimize our data infrastructure. PostgreSQL serves as the backbone for most of our core data, while Elasticsearch functions as our scalable and searchable document store and Redis powers our event streaming architecture. You’ll ensure these systems can handle growing data volumes and user loads while maintaining optimal performance.
  • Build robust CI/CD pipelines. You’ll design and maintain deployment pipelines that enable our engineering team to ship quickly and safely, with proper testing, security scanning, and rollback capabilities.
  • Implement comprehensive monitoring and observability. You’ll establish monitoring, logging, and alerting systems that give us deep visibility into system performance, user experience, and business metrics across our entire stack.
  • Ensure security and compliance. You’ll implement security best practices, manage secrets and access controls, and help us maintain compliance with relevant data protection regulations.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for an experienced DevOps engineer who can translate business needs into scalable technical solutions. Our infrastructure supports a complex AI-powered platform with real-time user interactions, large-scale data processing, and multiple machine learning workloads. Characteristics of an ideal candidate:

  • You have significant experience with infrastructure-as-code. Specifically, you’re proficient with Terraform and have experience managing cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) at scale. You understand how to build reusable, maintainable infrastructure code.
  • You’ve scaled database and event streaming systems. You have hands-on experience optimizing PostgreSQL for high-throughput applications and complex relational data models. You understand how to scale event streaming systems—whether Redis Streams, Kafka, or similar technologies—to handle real-time data flows. You’ve managed Elasticsearch clusters for large-scale document storage, complex search queries, and analytics workloads.
  • You’re proficient with modern DevOps tooling. You have experience with CI/CD systems, container orchestration, monitoring tools (like Prometheus, Grafana, or similar), and log aggregation systems.
  • You’re excited about AI-enhanced infrastructure workflows. You’re interested in exploring how AI tools can push the boundaries of traditional DevOps practices—from intelligent monitoring and anomaly detection to AI-assisted infrastructure optimization and automated problem resolution. You see AI as a force multiplier for infrastructure reliability and efficiency.
  • You operate well with ambiguity and rapid growth. We’re an early-stage startup scaling quickly. You’re comfortable making architectural decisions with incomplete information and can balance technical debt with rapid iteration needs.
  • You’re excited to do more than just operations. You’re interested in building internal tools, teaching and learning from the rest of the team, and contributing on the core product. DevOps is a skill set we need, but we don’t believe in silos.
  • You embrace automation and efficiency. You look for opportunities to automate manual processes and have experience building self-healing systems that minimize operational overhead.

Why Work with Us?

  • We are a company dedicated to empowering professionals to live meaningful careers. That starts with our culture at Mento.
  • You’re very excited about being part of a team crafting novel ways for people, teams, and companies to unlock their performance, growth, and how we all work together.
  • We work hard to foster a workplace built around trust, respect, collaboration, and having fun. We believe that feeling comfortable and safe at work is critical to creativity and productivity. Work-life balance should be your right, not your reward. As long as you are getting your work done and being accountable to your teammates, we don’t care when, where, or how you work.
  • We are a highly collaborative work-environment where every team member plays a critical role in building our products, shaping our culture, and growing our business. This is a unique opportunity to join an early-stage, mission-driven team.
  • We strongly believe that diversity of experience, perspectives, and background will lead to a better environment for our employees and a better product for our users. If you’re passionate about helping more people feel and perform their best at work, we want to hear from you.
