Director of Finance (Contract – 12 months )

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Director of Finance (Contract) to join our Finance team. Reporting directly to the VP Finance, this is a highly visible position responsible for overseeing a team driving the financial reporting and accounting operations. The role will play a critical leadership position, ensuring accurate and timely reporting to both our parent company (Generac Power Systems, an NYSE-listed S&P 500 organization) and internal management stakeholders.

The successful candidate will be responsible for financial reporting, financial analysis, and accounting operations, including revenue, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and treasury functions, across the business. In addition to ensuring compliance and driving operational efficiency, the Director of Finance is expected to provide mentorship and coaching, thought leadership, accounting policy recommendations, and proactively drive process and control improvements throughout the organization.

Responsibilities :

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team of 13, including 3 direct reports, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the completion of day-to-day processing of transactions and updating accounting records, monitoring bank accounts, reviewing monthly reconciliations and accruals, reviewing and approving payment runs and expense reports, and overseeing accounts receivable and payable functions.
  • Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting to both the parent company and internal stakeholders.
  • Oversee treasury and working capital management, including weekly cash flow forecasts and reporting.
  • Assist with the review of the company’s internal MD&A, including summary financial information, trend and variance analysis, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Evaluate and enhance internal processes and procedures, offering guidance on improving efficiency and strengthening controls.
  • Support business units and senior leadership by providing financial analysis with insightful input to drive sound financial and operating decision-making.
  • Oversee and manage the accounting system to maximize utilization and lead process improvement initiatives, including facilitating the implementation and training of new software tools for advanced automation and functionality.
  • Review complex accounting issues through technical and industry research and provide recommendations.
  • Coordinate annual audit processes with external and internal auditors.
  • Engage with parent company accounting and finance team on various matters, including month-end close requirements and analytics review.

Our Requirements :

  • University degree with CPA designation or equivalent
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting/finance, ideally in the manufacturing or technology industry
  • High integrity and professional duty of care
  • Strong technical accounting skills and understanding of US GAAP and/or IFRS required.
  • Experience with large-scale ERP systems – NetSuite experience is a strong asset.
  • Experience in ERP system implementation, integration and/or ongoing system management.
  • Experience operating in a multi-jurisdictional and multi-currency  environment.
  • Experience with financial planning and reporting platforms – Adaptive Planning experience is a strong asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build consensus, maintain strong working relationships, and influence across all levels.
  • Well-organized, thrives in a fast-paced and high-volume environment, and demonstrates adaptability to change.
