Elder Law Paralegal

Job description

Description

Equivity is seeking a skilled paralegal with a minimum of three years of experience supporting attorneys in elder law matters, including Medicaid planning, long-term care, guardianship, probate, and estate planning. As part of our team, you’ll deliver high-level virtual support to attorneys nationwide while benefiting from the flexibility and autonomy of remote work in a collaborative, professional environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft and prepare elder law documents, including powers of attorney, advance healthcare directives, revocable and irrevocable trusts, and related estate planning documents.

  • Assist with Medicaid planning and application processes, including gathering financial documentation and preparing required forms.

  • Prepare and file guardianship petitions, annual accountings, and other related court documents.

  • Support attorneys with probate matters, including preparing petitions, notices, and inventories, and ensuring compliance with court deadlines.

  • Conduct legal research related to elder law, Medicaid regulations, probate, and long-term care planning.

  • Maintain organized and up-to-date case files, ensuring all deadlines and court requirements are met.

  • Coordinate with government agencies, financial institutions, and healthcare providers to obtain necessary records and information.

  • Communicate professionally and compassionately with elderly clients and their families to support ongoing legal matters.

  • Track important case deadlines, manage calendars, and support attorneys with day-to-day case management tasks.

  • Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality and professionalism in all client interactions and documentation.

About You:

  • Experience using elder law or estate planning software such as HotDocs or Wealth Counsel.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe, and legal case management software such as Clio.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational ability, and attention to detail.

  • Comfortable working independently in a remote environment and managing multiple cases simultaneously.

  • Quiet, professional home office setup suitable for client and team calls.

  • The selected paralegal will come on board as a W-2 employee (not a 1099 independent contractor), with a minimum availability of 20 hours per week.

Why Equivity?

  • Comprehensive Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, paid sick time, employee discounts, EAP, and expense reimbursements.

  • Work-Life Balance: Flexible scheduling with the freedom of remote work.

  • Performance Bonuses: Quarterly incentives based on performance and client satisfaction.
