Company Description
Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.
Hey, g’day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte!
Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time-consuming and you’re probably keen to find out what’s on offer, so we’ll get straight to the point.
Where and how you can work
Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide. But you have the choice in where and how you work — we trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals.
What you’d be doing in this role
We’re on the lookout for an Engineering Manager to lead the Editor Content Experience team. This team sits at the intersection of advanced search technology and delightful UI, owning the “Object Panel” in the Canva Editor — the content-rich left panel that helps users design with confidence and ease. This is a rare opportunity to guide a high-impact team shaping the content discovery experience for millions globally. You’ll work closely with engineering, product, and design to deliver contextual, scalable, and inspiring content solutions.
At the moment, this role is focused on:
Leading a team of 7 engineers (including senior and staff-level talent) to evolve Canva’s Editor content experience.
Driving product and architectural innovations to enhance how users discover templates, elements, and other creative ingredients.
Refining frontend and search architecture to support personalization, contextual discovery, and offline experiences.
Removing barriers for internal teams to self-serve content into the Object Panel.
Collaborating across the Discovery Group to deliver unified and meaningful content discovery pathways.
You’re probably a match if:
You have a strong track record building inclusive, high-performing teams that are deeply collaborative and driven by purpose.
You can navigate and align a wide range of engineering, product, and design stakeholders.
You’re fluent in modern frontend development (particularly React) and comfortable diving into search infrastructure, even if you’re not hands-on coding daily.
You love coaching engineers and seeing them grow, and you’re confident making decisions that balance user needs, product strategy, and engineering health.
You’re energised by complexity and know how to bring clarity and direction in fast-moving environments.
About the team
The Editor Content Experience team is part of the Discovery Group, a vibrant, ambitious crew building Canva’s intelligent content engine. We’re evolving our Object Panel into a smart, personalised space where users effortlessly find the right templates, elements, and tools. It’s a team at the heart of Canva’s product experience — and a key driver of what makes designing with Canva so joyful.
