Summary

The job is for a FOIA Analyst working remotely on a contract basis. The role involves receiving, reviewing, and analyzing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, preparing request folders, entering data in the FOIA tracking database, drafting response letters, demonstrating experience with specific exemptions, communicating with various parties, coordinating searches for responsive documents, and ensuring released materials do not contain exempted information. A minimum Associates Degree is required, with a preferred Bachelor's degree.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of FOIA rules and regulations; specifically applying exemptions b(4), b(5), and b(6)
  • Experience redacting records with trade secret and confidential commercial information
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
  • Ability to work independently
  • Min: Associates Degree ; preferred: BA/BS

Responsibilities

  • Receive, review, and analyze new and backlogged Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests
  • Prepare FOIA request folders
  • Enter request data in the FOIA tracking database
  • Draft response letters and other FOIA correspondence
  • Communicate and initiate negotiations with requesters, FOIA staff, sponsors (or regulated industry representative), and contractors pertaining to records requested and associated information to be released
  • Serve as a liaison with requesters, and on rare occasion, other agencies and appellants, regarding records that may involve more than one (1) agency component/office
  • Coordinate searches for responsive documents and identify duplicate records
  • Review program records for responsiveness and offer release determinations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Regulatory agency experience preferred
  • Experience using SecureRelease
