Team Lead - Forward Deployed Engineering
- Description
The Team Lead, Forward Deployed Engineering is a dual, player-coach role, responsible for the day-to-day tasks of a Forward Deployed Engineer and the operational success of the other Forward Deployed Engineers under their purview. They are responsible for the day-to-day operations of Sprint ceremonies and work assignments. They provide feedback and guidance to their engineers, assist in design and architectural decisions, and unblock their teams’ work as things inevitably get in their way. They engage with clients, coworkers, vendors, and other third parties as needed to ensure clients get what they need.
Responsibilities
Forward Deployed Engineer
- Write and maintain custom JavaScript code deployed on clients’ ecommerce websites
- Write and maintain custom data ingestion and export jobs in Python and/or SQL
- Write and maintain custom JavaScript code in Google Cloud Functions to accommodate bespoke third party connections for the purposes of data transfer
- Engage with clients and internal stakeholders, providing strategic guidance on the appropriate technical approach(es) to executing client requests
- Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to ensure maximum consistency and accuracy of client data
Team Lead
- Conduct Sprint ceremonies and workflow management tasks for direct reports
- Maintain a pulse on the day-to-day work of direct reports, overseeing complex tasks, following up on timelines/deadlines, and providing guidance and assistance as needed to ensure timeliness and quality of output
- Serve as an escalation point for both internal and external matters, including engaging directly with clients, when necessary
- Conduct regular 1:1s with direct reports, unblocking their workflows, providing feedback and growth opportunities, managing down company/team information, and managing up employee concerns
- Assist management in with bi-annual performance reviews, providing essential context for the assessment of engineers within their purview
Requirements
- 3+ years of full-time work experience at a tech company or a startup
- Professional proficiency in JavaScript
- Proof of a technical background, whether that be a formal degree, work experience, or personal projects
- Ability to master Bluecore product, including features, customer use cases and key technical components
- Demonstrated project management skills; ability to define, scope and create project plans
- Knowledge of a broad range of web technologies, including: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, SQL, REST/SOAP APIs, XML/JSON, tag management, git
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Quick, on-your-feet thinking
- Willingness to engage directly with customers
- Problem-solving skills that enable you to identify and advise the best solutions
- Must be comfortable working day-to- day with cloud-based workflow tools, such as Salesforce, Jira, Google Apps, Airtable, and Slack
Nice to Haves
- Baseline knowledge of Python and SQL is a plus
- Marketing technology experience is a major plus
- Knowledge of eCommerce platforms and Email Service Providers (ESPs) is a plus
- Previous leadership experience is a major plus
Shift Timings - 6:30 PM IST - 2:30 AM IST
