Role Overview

Our client is seeking a visionary and strategic Head of Technology to provide unified technology leadership. The ideal candidate will define and champion a cohesive technology strategy that aligns with our clients’ business objectives. This role is critical for integrating the company’s data engineering, data science, and software engineering initiatives, unifying previously independent efforts into a cohesive, strategically aligned technology function. The Head of Technology will bridge the gap between business and technology, foster a culture of innovation, and provide senior technical representation at the executive level to guide the company through its next phase of growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Vision & Leadership:

  • Develop and champion a cohesive, long-term technology strategy that aligns with our client’s business objectives, ensuring all technical initiatives work in concert.

  • Provide senior technical leadership at the executive level, advocating for sound technical decisions and translating the founder’s vision into a viable and executable technical roadmap.

  • Act as the primary bridge between business and technology, translating business needs into technical strategy and ensuring technology investments deliver clear business value.

  • Technology Governance & Standardization:

  • Drive the implementation of consistent technologies, tools, and development practices to improve efficiency, reduce risk, and support long-term scalability.

  • Establish and oversee a robust data governance framework to bring cohesion and consistency to disparate data practices and legacy systems, enabling trusted, scalable data infrastructure.

  • Ensure architectural coherence and make informed decisions on the technology stack, including the strategic use of cloud platforms like Azure.

  • Innovation and Growth:

  • Foster a culture of innovation, identifying emerging technologies relevant to our client and strategically planning how technology can create new revenue streams.

  • Partner closely with the cross-functional ‘Design Thinking Team’ to explore, validate, and incubate new product innovations.

  • Lead the transformation from resource-intensive KTLO (Keep The Lights On) and foundational work to streamlined, automated, and scalable systems, creating space for engineering teams to focus on high-impact product innovation and service delivery.

  • Team Leadership & Mentorship:

  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and strategic oversight to our clients’ talented technical leaders in data engineering, data science, and software engineering.

  • Improve collaboration and team alignment to support a sustainable pace and maintain high morale across technical teams.

  • Serve as the strategic advocate for the technical organization, ensuring its priorities, constraints, and innovations are well-represented in company-wide decision-making.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience:

  • Proven experience in a senior technology leadership role (e.g., Head of Technology, VP of Engineering) with a track record of scaling technology organizations and strategy.

  • Demonstrated success scaling technology teams, systems, and strategy in a mid-sized, founder-led company preparing for its next phase of structured growth.

  • Experience in a data-intensive industry is highly preferred.

  • Technical Acumen:

  • Competencies in modern data science and AI are preferred.

  • Deep understanding of modern cloud platforms (experience with Azure is a plus), data architecture, and software development lifecycles.

  • This is a strategic leadership role requiring strong technical depth to guide architecture and mentor senior engineers, without being directly responsible for implementation.

  • Strategic & Leadership Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to develop a technology strategy that directly supports and drives business goals.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • A change agent with experience guiding organizations through cultural shifts and implementing change management principles.

  • A collaborative leader who understands the importance of giving everyone a voice in shaping the future and can foster teamwork to break down silos.

What Success Looks Like

Within the first 12-18 months, the Head of Technology will have:

  • Developed and gained executive alignment on a unified technology roadmap that integrates data engineering, data science, and software engineering efforts.

  • Successfully mentored and aligned with the existing technical leadership team, resulting in improved cross-functional collaboration and morale.

  • Join and participate in the operation of the “Design Thinking Team,” leading to the generation of 1-2 high-potential, validated product proposals.

  • Built a strong, trusted relationship with the founder and executive team, becoming the senior technical voice in strategic decision-making.
