Instruction Manager

Full-time, remote

ABOUT AI4ALL

AI4ALL is a national nonprofit that is transforming the pipeline of AI practitioners and creating a more inclusive, human-centered discipline. We empower students to be AI Changemakers by cultivating an environment where they develop skills in critical thinking and relationship-building, and expertise in responsible AI.

To accomplish this, we seek students from communities that have been excluded in the AI space. Then we help them build identity in the field, and tap into their own agency and initiative as they build technical and leadership skills. While all are welcome to apply, AI4ALL prioritizes students whose race, gender, or ethnicity has been historically excluded from AI: Black, Hispanic and Latinx, and Indigenous folks; and women and non-binary folks. Our programs run in partnership with colleges and universities around North America.

We are launching the diverse next generation of AI changemakers through education, ethics, and relationship-driven networks. AI4ALL has received funding from Melinda Gates/Pivotal Ventures, Prudential Financial, Accenture, General Motors, and SoftBank among others and has been featured in the New York Times, TIME, CNN, The Washington Post, USA Today, and The Atlantic.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for an Instruction Manager to join our Programs team to ensure consistent, high-quality instructional delivery across our programs. This new role will manage seasonal staff such as Instructors and Student Coordinators, allowing the Curriculum Manager to focus on education strategy and curriculum development.

As part of the Programs team, the Instruction Manager will design and implement scalable systems to recruit, onboard, and coach Instructors while optimizing classroom operations to support student success. The role collaborates closely with curriculum, program, and evaluation teammates to align instruction with AI4ALL’s pedagogical values, including active learning, universal design for learning, and inclusive representation.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about education, equity, and creating meaningful learning experiences for students from historically excluded backgrounds in AI.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Specifically the Instruction Manager will:

Instructor & Student Coordinator Management & Support:

  • Supervise and support 11–15 seasonal Instructors and 8–12 Student Coordinators (SCs), using a tiered leadership structure (e.g., Lead Instructors and Lead SCs)
  • Uphold instructional fidelity by reinforcing pedagogical best practices, including AI4ALL’s education building blocks (e.g., active learning, diverse role models, UDL)
  • Lead regular evaluation, coaching, and feedback cycles for instructional staff
  • Foster a sense of community and shared purpose across instructional team members
  • Model and promote AI4ALL’s CARE values (Commitment, Advocacy, Respect, and Empowerment) in all aspects of team leadership
  • Coordinate instructional team debriefs and reflection sessions
  • Monitor instructional delivery and adjust support strategies to ensure alignment with evolving program needs and classroom realities

Instructional Systems & Student Support:

  • Define and document responsibilities for Student Coordinators, including logistics like Zoom setup, class recordings, and follow-up with students
  • Manage student rosters, ensuring accurate tracking of participation, progress, and engagement
  • Develop oversight systems for SCs to support timely, consistent student support
  • Set up and maintain instructional logistics, including Zoom accounts and calendar invites

Collaboration & Curriculum Integration:

  • Partner with the Curriculum Manager to align instruction with evolving curriculum, including real-world applications and emerging trends in AI
  • Collaborate with the Programs Team to address student retention and completion challenges
  • Coordinate with university partners and industry mentors to enhance classroom learning

Instructor & Student Coordinator Training:

  • Design and deliver standardized onboarding, training, and professional development for Instructors and Student Coordinators

Other Duties as Assigned:

  • Participate in cross-functional team efforts and contribute to organizational learning

WHO YOU ARE

The Instruction Manager position calls for a motivated leader who can translate organization-wide strategies into local program delivery and who is passionate about people management. Specifically, this hire will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, AI, Education, or a related field—or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of experience managing instructors, educators, or learning facilitators
  • Experience designing and leading instructor training or professional development
  • Strong knowledge of AI, machine learning concepts, and the evolving AI job landscape
  • Demonstrated leadership, organization, and communication skills
  • Ability to foster inclusive, engaging, and student-centered learning environments

We’d prefer candidates who have:

  • Experience teaching students from historically excluded backgrounds
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS) and student engagement analytics
  • Experience implementing scalable oversight structures (e.g., Lead Instructor models)

In addition, AI4ALL staff embody a commitment to our values of inclusion, humanity, technology, agency, learning, and education.

We know there is research that shows women and minorities are less likely to apply for jobs if they don’t have all of the key skills for a position. AI4ALL encourages candidates with some, but not all, of the skills listed in the job description to apply.

WHAT WE OFFER

AI4All strives to be an employer-of-choice, we offer:

  • A target starting salary of $87,500-$100,000 per year. To determine starting pay, we consider multiple job-related factors including a candidate’s skills, education and experience, market demand, business needs, and internal parity.

  • A comprehensive medical, dental and vision insurance program.

  • Simple IRA with up to 3% matching contributions.

  • Generous time off including 15 vacation days, 9 sick days, 12 holidays, a 1-week December closure, and up to 4 paid wellness days off per year.

  • Stipends for Professional Development and for home office.

  • A commitment to developing leaders from within the organization.

  • An organizational culture and work-life balance that supports staff well-being.

  • Ample opportunities to connect with the students and communities we serve.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND LOCATION

AI4ALL has transitioned to a remote-first organization, enabling staff from across the country to work together in a virtual environment. However, we highly value in-person collaboration and hold occasional in-person meetings and retreats to foster deeper connections and teamwork.

  • The Programs team is highly collaborative, and we’d love for this position to preferably be based out of the New York City metro area, although we are willing to consider applicants with strong qualifications in another location.
  • AI4ALL organizes up to two in-person team retreats per year and all employees are expected to attend. This may require travel to New York City, San Francisco, and other locations outside of your usual work location.
  • Work is performed both independently and collaboratively. Work is performed on a computer, requires almost constant use of a keyboard, mouse, or other pointing device and may be performed sitting or standing.

EEO STATEMENT

AI4ALL is an equal opportunity employer committed to hiring a diverse workforce at all levels of the organization. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, national origin, age, sex, religion, disability, sexual orientation, marital status, veteran status, gender identity or expression, or any other basis protected by local, state, or federal law. This policy applies with regard to all aspects of employment, including hiring, transfer, promotion, compensation, eligibility for benefits and termination. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
