What is this position about?
As a Lead Data Scientist, you will spearhead the development of cutting-edge Generative AI solutions while building and guiding a brand-new data science team. With a strong foundation in Azure cloud services, you’ll be responsible for shaping technical strategies, driving innovation, and delivering impactful AI-driven products.
This is a unique opportunity to lead from the front in a fast-evolving space, taking on exciting challenges and helping define how Gen AI transforms the way we solve real-world problems.
You may work 100% remotely if you are currently living in LATAM, or you can always join us at the office in Montevideo, Uruguay!
Job Description
Lead the design, development, and deployment of Generative AI solutions, from prototypes to scalable production systems.
Build and mentor a high-performing data science team, fostering a culture of experimentation, excellence, and continuous learning.
Collaborate with product, engineering, and business teams to translate strategic goals into AI-powered solutions.
Architect and implement end-to-end pipelines leveraging Azure cloud tools for model training, deployment, and monitoring.
Stay up-to-date with the latest Gen AI advancements and integrate emerging techniques and models into our ecosystem.
Define best practices for model development, evaluation, and responsible AI.
Drive innovation through research, experimentation, and hands-on development.
Qualifications
4+ years of experience in data science or machine learning roles, with at least 2 years in a leadership or team-building capacity.
Proven experience with Generative AI models (e.g., LLMs, diffusion models, transformers).
Strong background in deploying machine learning solutions on Azure (e.g., Azure ML, Data Factory, Synapse).
Proficient in Python and common machine learning libraries.
Deep understanding of MLOps, model lifecycle management, and cloud-native architectures.
Exceptional problem-solving and communication skills.
Experience leading cross-functional teams and mentoring junior talent.
Passion for building from the ground up in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
What about languages?
You will need excellent written and verbal English for clear and effective communication with the team.
How much experience must I have?
We’re looking for someone with 4+ years of experience in data science, including hands-on work with Generative AI and leadership in team development.
