We’re looking for a Sydney-based Employment Law Counsel with expertise in the field of labor and employment law, to join our global Employment Law Team and to provide legal advice and guidance on wide range of labor and employment-related issues in APJ and other territories as we grow and expand our business.
What you’ll do:
- Provide expert, practical legal advice and guidance to internal stakeholders on a wide range of global labor law and employment-related issues such as hiring, performance management, terminations, benefits.
- Draft, review, and negotiate employment-related contracts and documents, as well as company policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local labor laws and regulations.
- Advise on employee disciplinary actions, investigations, and grievances, ensuring timely responses and fair, consistent treatment of employees.
- Collaborate with HR to address employee relations issues, mitigate risks, and support cross-functional projects.
- Collaborate with other internal legal counsels in the employment law team, the finance team and business leaders to address various projects, as well as manage relationships with external counsels in countries in EMEA, APJ, and other territories as needed.
- Oversee proceedings and litigation, including mediations, administrative charges, demand letters, and employment-related government audits.
- Advise on labor and employment matters in new markets, particularly in the APJ region, including by managing and cooperating with external counsels.
What you’ll bring:
- Licensed attorney in Australia
- Minimum 5 years of experience as an internal legal counsel in a high-tech/technology company, with a focus on labor and employment law, and knowledge of other specialist areas within it (e.g. contract, and commercial and data protection/privacy law)
- Experience handling litigation related to employment matters, including discrimination claims, unfair and unlawful dismissal, as well as experience advising on employment matters in international markets, particularly in the APJ region.
- Familiarity with mergers and acquisitions (M&A) transactions and their implications for employment law.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to exercise sound judgment and decision-making in fast-paced and high-pressure situations.
- Ability to work independently, take ownership of and lead legal processes related to the region.
