ABOUT KHAN ACADEMY INDIA

Khan Academy India aims to deliver a world-class user experience to learners in India that is locally relevant and is enabled by a strong on-the-ground team and operations. Our learning system is mastery-based, which allows students to master key concepts at a pace that’s right for them before moving on to more challenging content. From serving under 500,000 learners in 2016, we are now serving almost 4 million learners a month across our websites, apps and youtube channels. These learners include both independent learners accessing us at home and teacher directed learners in schools.  Our focus is to reach the underserved by making our content  accessible in local languages and by working with large public school systems. Khan Academy is already available in Assamese, Hindi, Hinglish, Kannada, Gujarati, Tamil, Marathi, and Punjabi.

ABOUT THE INDIA CONTENT  TEAM

Our content team in India includes seasoned Subject Matter Experts who create thousands of awesome videos, articles, and practice questions, aligned with the Indian curriculum, to help both teachers and students. We are actively working on content localization in various Indian languages, the content we co-create reaches far and wide, both nationally and globally.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a localisation manager to lead our localisation efforts to help us create thousands of videos and exercises in vernacular languages, that serve millions of learners throughout the country, with the support of our talented in-house language experts and state-appointed resource groups.

Role details:

  • Lead Localization Quality: Coach in-house localization experts on Khan Academy content principles and ensure timely, high-quality content delivery through rigorous QC.
  • Strategic Project Planning: Collaborate with state leadership to develop project plans that align with their curriculum and Khan Academy strategies.
  • Ensure Localizability: Partner with the content team to establish guidelines for creating easily localizable English content, maintaining content depth for videos and exercises.
  • Drive User Insights: Establish a robust feedback loop with state teachers through workshops and ongoing communication to inform content relevance.
  • Facilitate Smooth Delivery: Collaborate with the in-house tech team to ensure seamless execution of localization projects and maintain the functionality of web and mobile platforms.
  • Share Best Practices: Collaborate with the international team to exchange insights on content quality and curriculum alignment.
  • Balance Execution and Strategy: Effectively manage short-term tasks while contributing to the long-term strategic goals of the program.
  • Willingness to Travel: Ability to travel as required.

ABOUT YOU

  • Extensive Experience & Educational Insight: 5-7 years of work experience, with prior experience as an educator being highly valued.
  • Multilingual Proficiency: Fluent in two or more of the following Indian languages (reading and writing): Kannada, Telugu, Marathi, Odia, Hindi, Tamil, Assamese.
  • Proven Project Leadership: A seasoned project manager with a strong track record of successfully managing complex projects from initiation to completion, including defining scope, setting clear goals, and ensuring on-time, high-quality delivery.
  • Effective Cross-Functional Collaboration: A skilled people manager adept at working with multiple teams simultaneously, coordinating dependencies effectively without direct authority.
  • Exceptional Communication Skills: Excellent communication abilities, capable of addressing diverse audiences with clarity and efficiency across various formats (email, written documents, digital presentations, verbal conversations). Multilingualism is a significant advantage.
  • Rapid Learner: Demonstrates a capacity for quickly understanding and mastering new challenges.
  • Entrepreneurial Drive: Possesses an entrepreneurial mindset characterized by a high tolerance for ambiguity, a proactive approach to experimentation, and a strong bias toward action.
  • Hands-on Contributor: Willing to be a collaborative team member, ready to roll up sleeves and contribute to the team’s work as the program evolves.
  • Passion for Education: Deeply passionate about education and driven by a strong desire to make a positive global impact.
