Job description
The PLC Development Engineer will be responsible for the entire project lifecycle, including concept development, design, programming, FAT, initial on-site commissioning, and ongoing support for said product. You will manage multiple products/projects as the PLC Development Engineer and collaborate with various engineering disciplines, project management, Controls & HMI engineering teams, electrical engineering teams, and various customers groups.
Duties/Responsibilities:
·As a PLC Development Engineer, you will be responsible for leading and developing complex integrated systems, mentoring Jr to mid-level engineers, and overseeing a sector of product and code development.
·Product Development – Partner with various vendors externally and engineering groups internally & externally to come up with code, development plan, test plan, and deployment & commissioning guide for new development activites.
·Reading and understanding customer specification documentation and updating codeset functionality to match functional descriptions
·Self-motivated, with the ability to operate independently and with minimal supervision
·Must have good organizational and leadership skills
·Collaborate and communicate with team members, project managers, and customers in a professional well written and spoken manner.
·Document system specifications, interface designs, and test plans for Functional Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and Commissioning Acceptance Tests (CAT).
·Continuously improve the development process by incorporating best practices and industry standards.
·Provide support for system commissioning, troubleshooting and integration activities.
·Proficient with Microsoft 365 - Office Apps and Microsoft Windows OS
·Plus - Microsoft Azure DevOps, JIRA, or Copia knowledge
·Plus – Routing experience, Flow management system experience
Skills/Abilities:
PLC programming: (Expert level knowledge in Rockwell required, Siemens, Schneider or other is expected)
MUST be able to code, build, test, architect sortation code from scratch.
MUST be able to code, build, test, various PLC messaging for host interfaces from scratch.
HMI Programming: Intermediate level experience in one of the following (FactoryTalk View, FT Optix , Ignition, Wonderware, Indusoft)
·5-10+ years’ experience in a controls engineering or R&D controls development role.
·Post and Parcel Experience is a requirement, Ecomm and/or Airport & Baggage experience is a plus
·Knowledge of AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical
·Knowledge of 480vac 3-phase power, 120vac and 24VDC controls circuits
·Knowledge of Industrial communication networks (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Profibus, Modbus, etc.)
·Designs interfaces to devices such as network I/O, variable frequency drives, servos, camera/laser scanner ID systems and scales.
·Customizing standard products to meet the requirements of each project
·Configures interfaces to WCS, WES, or other forms of host software systems based on customer requirements
·Customizing standard product code to meet the requirements of each project
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, etc.
When traveling the job environment shifts to a site-based, typically industrial. When traveling this role routinely uses appropriate PPE, electrical diagnostic tools, electrical implementation tools, laptops, and networking equipment.
TRAVEL: This position requires up to 50% travel to various sites.
