About ICEYE

ICEYE is the global leader in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite operations for Earth Observation, persistent monitoring, and natural catastrophe solutions; owning and operating the world’s largest SAR constellation. ICEYE is headquartered in Finland and operates from five international locations with more than 600 employees from nearly 60 countries, inspired by the shared vision of improving life on Earth by becoming the global source of truth in Earth Observation.

Our satellites acquire images of Earth at any time โ€“ even when itโ€™s cloudy or dark โ€“ providing commercial and government partners with unmatched persistent monitoring capabilities. Information derived from our SAR images helps customers make data-driven decisions to address time-critical challenges in various sectors, such as maritime, disaster management, insurance, and finance.

Our team is a tight-knit group of experts across many disciplines (e.g., engineering, software development, radar technology, etc.). Weโ€™re innovative, driven people who strive for excellence in everything we do. Teamwork, curiosity, and having fun are core values at ICEYE, and contribute to Making the Impossible possible!

About the Role

We are looking for a motivated SAR Remote Sensing Engineer to join our SAR Analytics team, reporting to the Team Lead. Your work will directly contribute to providing near-real-time information for disaster response, helping to save lives and build more resilient communities.

As a SAR Remote Sensing Engineer, you will contribute to workflows that use ICEYE SAR data, geospatial data and advanced image processing techniques to support our business solutions, with a focus on natural catastrophe. You will work with a team of experts to fuse SAR with other data sources to create next-generation solutions in a fast-paced, agile environment.

Who You Are

  • You are a natural problem-solver, driven by a deep curiosity to understand how things work.
  • You are passionate about turning complex data into clear, actionable insights that have a real-world impact.
  • You thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and enjoy sharing knowledge with your team.
  • You are a proactive and adaptable individual, ready to take ownership of your work from concept to completion.

Your Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain workflows to process and analyze SAR data, extracting critical insights for natural catastrophe applications.

  • Leverage your expertise in remote sensing and signal processing to develop, test, and implement new SAR analytics capabilities from prototype to operational use.

  • Collaborate effectively with engineers and scientists across teams and timezones to solve complex problems and contribute to innovative solutions.

  • Assist in the validation and testing of new algorithms and processing workflows.

  • Communicate technical findings and results clearly to the team and internal stakeholders.

  • Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Remote Sensing, Geoscience, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.

  • 1-3+ years of relevant experience in remote sensing or signal processing applications (strong academic projects, including a Master’s thesis, can be considered as relevant experience).

  • Solid understanding of remote sensing principles and data analysis, particularly for damage and change detection using radar and optical data.

  • Proficiency in Python for data analysis, algorithm development, and automation.

  • Proficiency with version control systems, particularly Git and platforms like GitHub/GitLab.

  • Commitment to engineering best practices (e.g., code reviews, testing, documentation) to work seamlessly with data and software engineers to build operational solutions.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working effectively in an international environment with globally distributed teams.

  • Familiarity with various geospatial data formats (e.g., GeoTIFF, Geopackage) and tools.

  • A solid theoretical and practical understanding of SAR principles is required.

Nice to Have

  • A background in signal processing, particularly as it relates to radar and SAR systems.

  • Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker.

  • Specific expertise in applying remote sensing to natural disaster applications (e.g., flood mapping, wildfire damage assessment, landslide detection).

  • Hands-on experience with GIS software such as QGIS.

  • Experience with machine learning algorithms (e.g., Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch) and their application to geospatial data.

  • Familiarity with cloud computing environments (e.g., AWS).

  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development environment.

  • A job that matters in a dynamic Earth Observation environment with a scale-up approach

  • An independent role with a supportive and diverse work environment

  • Occupational healthcare and accident insurance

  • A yearly benefit budget to spend as you wish (i.e. on sport, transport, bike benefit, wellness, lunch, etc.)

  • Phone subscription with iPhone of your choice

  • Relocation support if needed (i.e. flight tickets, accommodation, relocation agency support)

  • Time for self-development, research, training, conferences, or certification schemes

  • Inspiring and collaborating offices and silent workspaces enable you to focus

  • A wide variety of the best coffee, tea, snacks, and sweets to accompany your daily space mission
