About Capella Space
We build and operate space systems that provide Earth intelligence. Founded in 2016 as an IonQ company, we specialize in Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), remote sensing, geospatial intelligence, satellite constellations, and aerospace manufacturing. We were the first U.S. company to launch and operate a commercial SAR constellation, which delivers high-resolution imagery day or night, through clouds, smoke, or darkness. We are also developing the world’s first quantum-enabled Earth observation network, powered by IonQ.
Our SAR satellites capture imagery at sub-0.25 meter resolution. Our Concept of Operations (CONOPS) allows us to revisit key regions in under 3 hours and offers flexible collection schedules, supported by a fully automated tasking API. Our in-house design and manufacturing team allows us to rapidly scale our satellite constellation. We have between 201 and 500 employees and operate within the Defense and Space Manufacturing industries.
We use our technology for various applications, including:
- Intelligence community: Site monitoring and patterns of life analysis.
- Insurance industry: Verifying damage claims.
- Maritime authorities: Detecting illegal activities.
- First responders and humanitarian aid organizations: Assessing post-disaster damage.
We launched “Denali,” the United States’ first commercial SAR satellite, in 2018. “Sequoia” (Capella-2), our first operational U.S. SAR satellite, followed in 2020. In early 2025, we achieved CMMC Level 2 and obtained a Facility Clearance Level (FCL).
