Why This Role Exists
The Senior Director, Patient Recruitment is a pivotal leadership role at Profound Research, responsible for developing and implementing strategies to optimize patient recruitment, engagement, and retention in clinical trials. Reporting to the CEO, this role will be the architect of our entire patient recruitment function. You won’t just be running a department; you will be building the sophisticated, predictive, and scalable system that powers our clinical trials and ensures we connect the right patients to the right studies. Working closely with physicians, site coordinators, and operational teams, this dynamic leader will enhance patient experience and expand trial participation ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and alignment with Profound’s mission and values.
Responsibilities
· Design Profound’s patient recruitment strategy, implement best-in-class technology, define core metrics for success, and build a world-class team.
· Design and deploy predictive enrollment models tailored and embedded within each therapeutic area, creating the foundational KPIs to accurately forecast timelines, identify high-potential patient cohorts, and proactively derisk studies.
· Own and develop the full-funnel analytics framework implementing a comprehensive analytics strategy, translating real-time data from site performance, digital channels, and call center metrics such as speed to lead, and qualification rates, into actionable intelligence that drives operational decisions.
· Drive in-office recruitment strategy by leveraging EMR systems and direct physician engagement to identify and activate eligible patients at the point of care, integrating clinical workflows and real-time alerts.
· Oversee the development and deployment of physician- and patient-facing recruitment materials, ensuring clarity, compliance, and cultural competence, while maximizing trust, engagement, and conversion.
· Optimize patient engagement and conversion by engineering a scalable, multi-channel patient engagement journey that integrates personalized outreach with rigorous call center performance management, directly linking engagement activities to improved conversion, enrollment, and retention rates.
· Build and mentor a high-performing team, foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement centered on data and patient-centricity.
· Serve as the key cross-functional partner to Clinical Operations, Data Analytics, Marketing, and site leaders to ensure recruitment strategies are seamlessly integrated with overall trial objectives and company goals.
· Be a data-obsessed leader, capable of articulating patient recruitment performance, scalability, and competitive advantage into a clear, compelling story for investors that translates strategy into value.
· Adapt to evolving priorities and take on other strategic projects as needed.
Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree (MPH, MBA, MS) highly preferred.
· 10+ years of progressive experience in patient recruitment, with a significant portion within a CRO, pharmaceutical/biotech sponsor, or clinical trial technology company.
· 5+ years of direct people management and leadership experience, with a proven track record of building and scaling teams.
· Demonstrated mastery in developing and implementing data-driven recruitment strategies, including experience with predictive analytics, funnel optimization, and KPI creation.
· Deep expertise in managing multi-channel recruitment campaigns, including digital marketing, community outreach, site-level support, and call center operations.
· Fluency in call center metrics and best practices for optimizing patient qualification and conversion.
· Deep understanding of the clinical trial lifecycle, protocol feasibility, GCP, and global regulatory requirements.
· Experience selecting, implementing, and leveraging recruitment technologies such as CRM, CTMS, data analytics platforms.
· Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across functions.
· Proven track record in managing and leading high performing teams.
· Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and adapt to change.
