Job description

Trilogy Federal provides financial management, information technology (IT) consulting, program management services, and strategic consulting to federal agencies. Trilogy has an extensive history helping federal clients achieve their most ambitious business modernization and optimization goals with the ability to deliver targeted subject matter expertise and full life cycle support.

Trilogy Federal is seeking a Solution System Architect/Engineer to support the  Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The ideal candidate will be a visionary technical leader with expertise in designing scalable, secure IT solutions, thriving in a fast-paced, client-focused environment. This role requires a collaborative, strategic thinker to join our team, architecting and engineering systems that modernize VA corporate IT services, including legacy applications and DevSecOps-driven initiatives.

The selected Solution System Architect/Engineer must hold an active Certified SAFe Architect (SA) certification and bring proficiency in aligning technical architectures with VA’s Veteran-focused Integration Process (VIP) Lean-Agile framework. This position will bridge business needs and technical execution, delivering innovative, compliant solutions to enhance system performance and meet VA stakeholder expectations.

Please note this position is contingent upon award (Q2/Q3 2025), and may require occasional customer site visits in D.C.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop end-to-end system architectures for VA corporate IT solutions, integrating legacy systems with modern cloud-based and DevSecOps environments (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Define technical strategies and roadmaps that align with CCSS 2 objectives, ensuring scalability, security, and performance of VA systems across the enterprise.
  • Lead the translation of VA stakeholder requirements into actionable architectural designs, collaborating with Scrum Masters, DevOps Engineers, and Release Managers to support Agile delivery.
  • Implement SAFe architectural principles, guiding Agile Release Trains (ARTs) and ensuring solution designs support continuous delivery and incremental value to VA end-users.
  • Engineer solutions leveraging key technologies (e.g., Java, SQL Server, Oracle Database, Jenkins) to modernize legacy applications and enable Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) workflows.
  • Ensure architectural compliance with VA security and privacy standards (e.g., FISMA, NIST 800-53, FIPS 140-2), incorporating encryption, access controls, and monitoring into system designs.
  • Utilize VA-approved tools (e.g., Jira, GitHub, ServiceNow) to document architectural designs, track changes, and contribute to Biweekly Status Reports on solution progress and technical risks.
  • Provide technical leadership during Agile ceremonies (e.g., PI planning, sprint reviews), aligning system designs with sprint goals and the VIP Lean-Agile framework.
  • Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) or containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), to enhance VA OIT’s modernization efforts.
  • Collaborate with VA stakeholders, including the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR), to validate solution designs, address technical challenges, and deliver exceptional customer outcomes.
  • Mentor team members on architectural best practices and SAFe principles, contributing to Trilogy’s staff development initiatives and fostering a culture of technical excellence.
  • Assess and mitigate risks related to system architecture, ensuring designs remain adaptable to evolving VA requirements and technical standards.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Certified SAFe Architect (SA) certification required.
  • 5+ years of experience in solution architecture, systems engineering, or a related role, with a focus on federal or VA IT environments.
  • Proven expertise in designing enterprise-scale IT systems, integrating cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), and applying SAFe methodologies in Agile settings.
  • Strong technical and strategic skills, with the ability to balance innovation, security, and scalability in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with VA security standards (e.g., FISMA, NIST, HIPAA) and the VIP Lean-Agile framework is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, SharePoint) and VA-approved tools (e.g., Jira, GitHub, ServiceNow).
  • Ability to adapt to evolving technical requirements and travel occasionally to VA sites in Washington, D.C., as needed.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s preferred
  • Additional certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect, or TOGAF preferred.

Benefits (including but not limited to):

  • Health, dental, and vision plans
  • Optional FSA
  • Paid parental leave
  • Safe Harbor 401(k) with employer contributions 100% vested from day 1
  • Paid time off and 11 paid holidays
