About the role
We are looking for a passionate Junior Sports Journalist to join our dynamic team in Cape Town. The ideal candidate will have up to 3 years of experience in sports journalism and hold a relevant qualification in sports communication or journalism. This role offers the opportunity to grow your career while covering exciting sports stories, producing engaging content, and contributing to our digital platforms through blogging.
What you’ll be doing
- Research, write, and publish accurate and compelling sports news articles and reports
- Produce regular blog posts on current sports events, trends, and athlete profiles
- Cover local and national sports events, conducting interviews and gathering firsthand information
- Collaborate with the creative team to refine content and meet standards
- Monitor sports news and social media trends to stay current and generate fresh story ideas
- Assist with multimedia content creation, including photos and video highlights, when needed
- Ensure all content is delivered on deadline and maintains high quality and journalistic integrity
What you’ll bring
- Relevant qualification in Sports Communication, Sports Journalism, or a related field
- 0 to 3 years of experience working in sports journalism or related roles
- Strong writing and storytelling skills, with attention to detail
- Passionate about sports with a deep understanding of local and international sports scenes
- Based in Cape Town, South Africa, with flexibility to attend live sports events
- Ability to work independently and as part of a fast-paced editorial team
- Basic knowledge of digital publishing platforms and social media management is a plus
