YOUR ROLE AND MISSION:

As a Staff Software Engineer at Apollo, you will take the lead on directing and implementing solutions to significantly complex, unscoped problems. Your work will extend to many parts of a domain and may begin to influence your entire department or domain. Your team’s work will align engineering priorities to Apollo’s business and engineering priorities to realize the meaningful impact. You’ll improve the overall quality of engineering done on your team and consistently take steps to support the growth and the success of your teammates.

DAILY ADVENTURES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop multi-tier scalable, high-volume performing, and reliable user-centric applications that operate 24x7
  • Produce high-quality framework that is thoroughly tested, code reviewed & resilient, and improve upon developer productivity
  • Provide technical leadership, driving and performing best engineering practices to initiate, plan, and execute large-scale, cross-functional, and cross-team critical projects
  • Mentor junior engineers, grow their capabilities to next level and spread your expertise for a stronger engineer teamive practice of mentorship and sponsorship. Maintaining relationships and developing a positive team culture
  • Scale distributed applications, make architectural trade-offs applying relevant design patterns, write high quality code, and deliver business impact through fast iteration
  • Provide objective and helpful quarterly performance feedback for engineers

  • Impact customer metrics: Have strong understanding of what the most important customer metrics are and achieve big impact for improvement by working with Product Managers and through multiple agile iterations
  • Tech lead projects: Become the recognized subject matter that your team owns, setup team technical roadmap with managers and lead the execution
  • Strong productivity: Demonstrate strong productivity for fast iteration to impact core metrics even under challenging code bases
  • High quality implementations: deliver high quality implementations and act as an example of engineering excellence within the team
  • Communication: Achieve alignment with cross-team stakeholders for squad planning
  • Scalable and reliable systems: Architect and develop services that are highly available and scalable with proper monitoring and alerting in place

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must Have

  • Strong background of working with MongoDB at scale
  • Interest in building features with performance, accessibility and scalability in mind
  • Strong product sense with the ability to negotiate the right MVP • Ability to write comprehensive, well-structured, highly performant code
  • Robust understanding of working on message queues & background jobs
  • Monitoring and Metrics gathering (GCP Logs, Prometheus, NewRelic)
  • Proven experience leveraging AI tools to enhance software development processes, including code generation, debugging, and productivity optimization. Candidates should demonstrate fluency in integrating AI-driven solutions into their workflows and a willingness to stay current with emerging AI technologies

Nice to Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of relevant work experience in software development.
  • Experience in software development using a general-purpose programming language (e.g., Java, Python, Ruby etc).
  • Experience of working on 3rd party API integrations, with error handling, rate limiting and monitoring.
