POSITION OVERVIEW
Avero seeks a Systems Administrator to join our Product Operations team. You’ll manage and optimize both data center and corporate cloud infrastructure, as well as end user equipment. Key responsibilities include automating onboarding/offboarding processes, monitoring and upgrading hardware/software, and streamlining operational workflows.
You should have deep technical expertise, a service-oriented mindset, and a drive to automate and improve systems. This position is 80% remote, reporting to the Head of Product Operations and collaborating closely with DevOps.
Our Product Operations team supports both on-premises and AWS-based infrastructure, underpinning all Avero products and corporate IT. We leverage modern technologies and follow an Everything-as-Code approach to deliver highly available, performant, and adaptable systems.
Applicants must reside within a reasonable commuting distance (approximately 50 miles or less) of both Carteret, NJ and Brooklyn, NY, and have access to a car.

What You’ll Do
- Support of migration of on-premises monolithic application infrastructure to cloud-based microservices
- Explore, implement, and test new technologies
- Access Product Operations equipment storage in Brooklyn, NY
- Participate in data center operations in Carteret, NJ
- Participate in on-call pager rotation
- Champion operational excellence, actively participating in the process of development and continuous improvement
- Provide technical support to your team members, take ownership of your work, and always be learning
- Participate in operational reviews, defining and refining your team’s process
Support corporate cloud infrastructure and end user devices, but not limited to, the following:
- Responsible for primary remote corporate help desk duties for end users.
- Troubleshoot and resolve end user hardware and software problems.
- Maintaining Windows and MacOS end user hardware.
- Perform routine Microsoft 365 administration tasks including add/remove/manage Microsoft 365 accounts
- End user device deployment automation development and implementation.
- Hosted RingCentral VOIP management.
- Salesforce administration
- Atlassian hosted product administration (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket)
Support on-premises hardware and software infrastructure including, but not limited to the following:
- Hardware: Dell, Oracle
- Storage – Dell PowerVault, HPE Nimble
- Software: Apache, vsftpd, Oracle WebLogic, Oracle Enterprise DBMS, SAP Business Objects
- Networking – Cisco Catalyst Switches, F5 Labs BigIP Load Balancers
- FTP/FTPS/SFTP Servers
- HTTP Servers – Apache, Tomcat
What You’ll Need
- 5+ years of experience in Systems Administration
- Strong understanding of the core concepts of networking, security, systems administration, and monitoring/alerting
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience working within remote or geographically distributed teams is preferable and a strong commitment to collaboration in a remote-first environment
- Access to a car (approximately once a week)
Required experience with the following:
- Hardware: Dell, Apple, Oracle Sparc
- Networking: Cisco Switching, F5 BigIP administration
- Languages – Shell and PowerShell Scripting
- Source Control – Git and Bitbucket
- Hypervisors: Citrix XenServer
- Operating Systems: Windows, MacOS, Linux & Unix administration (Ubuntu, Fedora/RL/RHEL, Amazon Linux, Solaris)
You do not need to be an expert in everything but should have a significant overlap with our existing technology stack. We can help you ramp up where there are gaps:
- Languages – Python, Perl
- Oracle WebLogic Administration
- Databases – Oracle, SQL Server
- Cloud Administration: AWS

$110,000 - $120,000 a year
