Job description

ABOUT THE JOB

We are looking for a senior public affairs and communications professional with a minimum of 8 years’ experience and deep expertise in sustainability with specialisation in energy and climate policy.

FleishmanHillard in Brussels is Europe’s leading EU public affairs and communications consultancy. We have an excellent track record of advising global corporations, trade associations and governments as they navigate regulatory, political and policy issues of substantial commercial and societal significance. Our approach hinges on close partnership, offering deep expertise and applying insight as well as creativity to our clients’ issues.

Our Brussels Integrated Public Affairs team works with clients across a wide spectrum of industries, including oil & gas, utilities, renewables, transportation and raw materials. Specifically, we advise these clients on the implications of EU public policy for their organisations, in the context of the EU climate and industrial agenda and develop and implement advocacy and communication strategies to help them enhance their engagement and positioning.

What you will do

You will proactively develop and initiate new business opportunities both in Brussels and as part of our Global practice. You will direct communications and advocacy programmes, and work in close partnership with clients as a trusted advisor. This position will provide an opportunity for teaming up with senior industry practitioners and for broad sectoral experience and growth.

  • Grow and develop new business, with the aim of achieving a high success rate in converting proposals to revenue.
  • Consolidate and enhance FH’s profile as a market-leading consultancy on Sustainability topics through thought-leadership, actively representing FH in high-level Brussels discussion fora, authoring articles, and participating in conferences and seminars and on speaking platforms.
  • Provide consultancy services for a portfolio of clients, including ensuring client retention and growth, client satisfaction, high standards of servicing and account profitability.
  • Actively contribute to wider office discussions relating to marketing, training and people development, and business development of the company.
  • Actively contribute to ongoing team supervision, management and mentoring.
  • Work with colleagues from our various sector teams across the office, given that sustainability issues touch all sectors
  • Build working relationships with the global FleishmanHillard network to share best practices and to grow business.

Who you are

  • You have deep work experience (+ 8 years) relating to EU-level sustainability policy with a linked area of energy and climate. This experience should ideally be acquired by working in a consultancy firm.
  • You have an entrepreneurial approach to client servicing and business development.
  • You have an excellent understanding of the EU institutions and political dynamics.
  • You have strong business acumen and an appreciation of the commercial impact of policy decisions.
  • You have a strong network within the energy and climate space, both within industry and EU institutions.
  • You have existing relationships with business, technology, trade associations, think tanks and thought leaders and political trade media, and well-developed skills in building and maintaining traditional and digital media relationships.
  • You have excellent capability as an advisor, including first-class communication and writing skills, and as a team leader.
  • You can solve problems and exercise excellent judgment with the ability to think ‘outside of the box’.
  • You can work in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines without sacrificing quality, maintain good client relationships and deliver outstanding results.
  • You understand agency financials and have experience budgeting projects.
  • You are professional, proactive and committed to high standards in the quality of the communications product.

A flexible hybrid working model

We encourage flexible working across three core dimensions: work from office, work from home and external events and meetings.

  • Our modern and sustainable office in the heart of Brussels will always be our central meeting point and should drive collaboration, information exchange and collegiality. And yes, there are free fruit, coffee & drinks in the office.
  • Event attendance to both gather intelligence and build a network is at the core of our business, as is face to face client interaction.
