About the Role

We’re looking for an Infrastructure Engineering Manager to help us build a seamless, reliable platform for the dbt platform across AWS, Azure, and GCP. Our team’s mission is to create a seamless developers experience by providing a stable, observable, and easy-to-use infrastructure platform.

Over the past year, we’ve designed and operationalized a next-gen cell-based architecture, scaling the dbt platform across all three cloud providers. Now, we’re focused on automation, self-service, and improving developer velocity through better tooling, processes, and infrastructure design.

As an Engineering Manager, you’ll lead your team on infrastructure projects to refine our platform while ensuring performance, reliability, and an excellent developer experience. You’ll collaborate across teams, tackle real infrastructure challenges, and help shape the future of multi-cloud dbt Cloud. The Platform organization is expanding to India, and in this role, you’ll have the opportunity to build your own team, coach them, and help them grow.

About Team

You’ll be managing one of the infrastructure teams within the larger Platform organization. This team will be responsible for our infrastructure as a service, CI/CD via Terraform, and improving the developer experience at dbt Labs.

In this role, you can expect to:

  • Build, lead, and coach a team of 5-8 engineers to manage the infrastructure for the dbt platform.
  • Empower your team to achieve big goals by giving them product and business context and supporting team ownership of the roadmap, product development lifecycle, and technical excellence.
  • Dive deep into our product to frame tradeoffs and make decisions about what, how, and when we build.
  • Partner with Product Marketing, Solutions Architecture, and Customer Support to build delightful migration experiences, helping our customers seamlessly move off legacy deployments.
  • Coach engineers in product thinking, quality, and software engineering. Build individualized growth plans and match interests and capabilities to team goals.
  • Work with peer managers to evolve organizational processes like product training, technical decision making, project execution, and planning.

Mandatory skills

  • 3+ years in people management with a software or infrastructure engineering team
  • Experience supporting a cloud based infrastructure with complex resource requirements and global deployment strategy. You have earned wisdom about best practices at the place where application and infrastructure meet, including a POV on achieving reliability, availability, performance, and security.
  • Deep understanding of Terraform and cloud infrastructure state management

You are a good fit if you have:

  • Experience leading teams through all parts of the product development lifecycle. You’ve lived design, implementation, end-to-end testing, observability, release strategies, and incident management.
  • Have successfully partnered across teams and departments to coordinate cross-cutting initiatives
  • You are interested in our mission and values. You are inspired to drive progress in the data and analytics ecosystem.

You’ll have an edge if you have:

  • Worked asynchronously as part of a fully-remote, distributed team
  • Have excellent written communication skills. We are a remote-first company that uses writing to facilitate decision-making.
  • Startup or scaleup experience. You may be asked to wear many hats, and agility in shifting roles and scopes will contribute to your success.

dbt Labs is an equal opportunity employer, committed to building an inclusive team that welcomes diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences. Even if your experience doesn’t perfectly align with the job description, we encourage you to apply—we value potential just as much as a perfect resume.
