Job description
Who is Heidi?
Heidi is building an AI Care Partner that supports clinicians every step of the way, from documentation to delivery of care.
We exist to double healthcare’s capacity while keeping care deeply human. In 18 months, Heidi has returned more than 18 million hours to clinicians and supported over 73 million patient visits. Today, more than two million patient visits each week are powered by Heidi across 116 countries and over 110 languages.
Founded by clinicians, Heidi brings together clinicians, engineers, designers, scientists, creatives, and mathematicians, working with a shared purpose: to strengthen the human connection at the heart of healthcare.
Backed by nearly $100 million in total funding, Heidi is expanding across the USA, UK, Canada, and Europe, partnering with major health systems including the NHS, Beth Israel Lahey Health, MaineGeneral, and Monash Health, among others.
We move quickly where it matters and stay grounded in what’s proven, shaping healthcare’s next era. Ready for the challenge?
The Role
We’re looking for a Clinical Coding Specialist with deep expertise in NHS clinical coding to guide the development of Heidi’s AI scribe platform into compliant, accurate, structured medical documentation that supports NHS Trust requirements.
You’ll be the clinical coding expert who ensures our AI systems understand and apply NHS coding standards correctly, working directly with our engineering team to embed your expertise into automated systems that support clinicians seamlessly. You’ll play a crucial role in defining coding accuracy standards, validation processes, and compliance frameworks that power millions of patient encounters across NHS settings.
What you’ll do:
You’ll work as the clinical coding subject matter expert to ensure our AI-powered systems meet the highest standards of NHS clinical coding accuracy and compliance:
Lead clinical coding validation for AI-generated documentation, ensuring accurate application of ICD-10, OPCS-4, SNOMED, and specialty-specific coding across diverse NHS clinical scenarios
Develop coding guidelines and protocols that translate complex NHS coding standards and rules into systematic processes our AI can learn and apply consistently
Create and maintain high-quality labeled datasets for AI training, validating clinical coding annotations and establishing gold-standard references for model development and evaluation
Conduct quality audits of AI-coded documentation, identifying patterns, gaps, and opportunities for improvement in coding accuracy and compliance with NHS standards
Collaborate with engineering teams to translate clinical coding expertise into technical requirements, validation rules, and system improvements
Work directly with NHS clinicians to understand documentation patterns, clinical decision-making, and coding challenges in acute, community, and mental health settings
Ensure compliance with NHS Digital coding standards, National Clinical Coding Standards (NCCS), and Information Standards Notices
Support HRG (Healthcare Resource Group) validation and ensure accurate casemix data for Payment by Results (PbR) and tariff calculations
Analyze coding data and metrics to identify trends, accuracy patterns, and areas for system optimization
Stay current with NHS coding updates including ICD-10, OPCS-4, and SNOMED updates, National Clinical Coding Standards changes, and NHS Digital guidance
Support NHS Trust implementations by providing coding expertise during enterprise client onboarding and troubleshooting
What we’ll look for:
5+ years of professional clinical coding experience in NHS Trusts or UK healthcare settings
Expert-level knowledge of ICD-10 (WHO version), OPCS-4, and UK clinical terminology across multiple specialties
Professional qualification as an Accredited Clinical Coder (ACC) or equivalent recognized by NHS Digital/Academy of Clinical Coders
Multi-specialty coding experience including inpatient, outpatient, A&E, day case, and specialty clinic coding
Strong understanding of Healthcare Resource Groups (HRGs), Payment by Results (PbR), and NHS tariff structures
Experience with clinical coding audits and quality assurance processes, including accuracy measurement aligned to NHS Digital standards
Familiarity with NHS EHR systems (e.g., Cerner Millennium, EPIC, System C, Lorenzo, Careflow) and clinical documentation workflows
Understanding of NHS data quality requirements, Commissioning Data Sets (CDS), and Hospital Episode Statistics (HES)
Analytical skills with ability to identify coding patterns, trends, and systematic issues
Communication skills to work effectively with clinical teams, engineers, and NHS information managers
Adaptability to work in a fast-paced technology environment and translate traditional NHS coding processes into innovative AI-powered solutions
What do we believe in?
Heidi builds for the future of healthcare, not just the next quarter, and our goals are ambitious because the world’s health demands it. We believe in progress built through precision, pace, and ownership.

Practice Ownership - Decisions follow logic and proof, not hierarchy. Exceptional care demands exceptional standards in our work, our thinking, and our character.
Small Cuts Heal Faster - Stability earns trust, speed delivers impact. Progress is about learning fast without breaking what people depend on.
Make others better - Feedback is direct, kindness is constant, and excellence lifts everyone. Our success is measured by collective growth, not individual output.
Our mission is clear: expand the world’s capacity to care, and do it without losing the humanity that makes care worth delivering.
