Job description

The Sr. Business Analyst, Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) is an individual contributor role reporting to the Sr. Manager, Change Control and System Configuration within the Revenue Cycle department. You will be a critical link between operational partners and technical teams, ensuring that needs are clearly defined and translated into relevant reporting, analytics, and system requirements.

The Business Analyst will partner with teams to identify process gaps, define KPIs, validate data accuracy, and help deliver insights that improve cash flow, compliance, and overall RCM performance. This role is ideal for someone who can balance strong analytical skills with a deep business knowledge of the healthcare revenue cycle and the ability to guide clarity.

Responsibilities

  • Document and maintain business rules, metric definitions, and reporting standards to ensure consistency and understanding across the revenue cycle.
  • Analyze workflows, processes, and data trends to identify causes of variances and recommend relevant improvements.
  • Develop dashboards and reports that help partners to monitor performance, track KPIs, and support executive decision-making.
  • Perform gap analysis between current processes/systems and desired future state, providing recommendations that align with organizational goals.
  • Support change control projects by assessing business impacts of system or workflow updates and ensuring downstream reporting integrity.
  • Collaborate with data engineering and platform teams to validate data quality, ensure delivery of reporting, and escalate discrepancies.
  • Prepare executive and operational reporting packages with clear insights, highlighting trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Be a subject matter expert in revenue cycle metrics, compliance needs, and audit/reconciliation requirements.

Qualifications

  • 5–7 years of work experience in revenue cycle management, business analysis, or a related field.
  • Proven experience gathering, documenting, and managing requirements for analytics or system projects.
  • Knowledge of healthcare revenue cycle workflows (registration, eligibility, coding, claims, AR, payment posting, patient invoicing).
  • Proficiency with SQL and data visualization tools (Python, Looker, Tableau, PowerBI) to validate data and support ad hoc analysis.
  • Experience translating complex data into clear, applicable insights for non-technical partners.
  • 5+ years of experience collaborating with technical and business teams.
  • Experience with athenahealth or similar EHR/billing systems appreciated.

Physical/Cognitive Requirements:

  • Capability to remain seated in a stationary position for prolonged periods.
