Our client, an organization dedicated to advancing legal education, is looking for an outstanding Director of Legal Content Strategy and Research to oversee their YouTube channel and related digital media projects. This unique position allows you to merge legal journalism knowledge with content production expertise while accessing premium production support.
Your primary focus will be researching, writing, and creating legal educational materials that transform intricate legal subjects into accessible and captivating content for general audiences.
The ideal candidate has a proven track record of expanding a YouTube channel, possesses robust legal research skills, and excels at converting complicated legal and political subjects into engaging educational material. You’ll enjoy full creative control while benefiting from outstanding production support.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Content Strategy & Development
- Experiment with different formats, topics, and approaches to maximize reach and educational impact
- Analyze performance metrics and audience feedback to refine content strategy
- Identify trending legal topics, court decisions, and political developments that will resonate with viewers
- Develop content calendar and publishing schedule to maintain consistent audience engagement
- Build and execute strategies to grow channel subscribers and viewership
- Lead content strategy for their YouTube channel, focusing on legal education for public audiences
Research & Script Writing
- Stay current on Supreme Court decisions, federal court rulings, and legislative developments
- Write compelling, accurate scripts that translate legal complexity into accessible educational content
- Develop creative angles and storytelling approaches to make legal topics engaging
- Fact-check all content for legal accuracy and credibility
- Conduct extensive legal research on complex topics, court cases, legislation, and constitutional issues
- Research and report on national politics, particularly as it intersects with legal and judicial matters
Production Management & Collaboration
- Work with design team on visual elements, graphics, and animations
- Manage production timelines and ensure consistent content output
- Leverage professional studio facilities for high-quality content production
- Provide creative direction and feedback throughout the production process
- Participate in on-camera work as needed (hosting, explanatory segments, interviews)
- Collaborate with production team, editors, and designers to bring scripts to life
Audience & Community Engagement
- Engage with viewers and respond to questions about legal topics (within appropriate boundaries)
- Build and nurture an engaged community around legal education content
- Develop strategies to increase viewer engagement, watch time, and channel loyalty
- Identify opportunities for community-driven content and audience participation
- Monitor comments, feedback, and community discussions to understand audience needs
Editorial & Quality Leadership
- Develop style guides and best practices for legal educational content
- Represent the channel’s voice and mission in all content decisions
- Establish and maintain editorial standards for accuracy, fairness, and educational value
- Mentor and guide any future team members or contributors
- Ensure content maintains political balance and journalistic integrity
Innovation & Growth
- Propose and test innovative approaches to legal education content
- Stay current on YouTube algorithm changes, platform best practices, and emerging trends
- Adapt content strategy based on analytics, audience feedback, and platform evolution
- Experiment with new content formats and distribution strategies
- Identify collaboration opportunities with other educational creators and channels
Required
- Exceptional script writing skills with ability to make complex topics accessible and engaging
- Understanding of YouTube platform, algorithm, analytics, and best practices for audience growth
- Extensive experience in legal journalism or legal content creation
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and direction
- Comfort appearing on camera and strong on-screen presence
- Excellent project management skills with ability to manage multiple content pieces simultaneously
- Deep understanding of current events at the intersection of law and politics
- Track record of creating educational or explanatory content for public audiences
- Strong editorial judgment and commitment to accuracy and fact-checking
- Proven experience managing and growing a YouTube channel with demonstrable results
- Experience covering national politics, particularly legal and judicial matters
- Strong legal research capabilities with ability to understand and explain complex legal concepts
Preferred
Video editing skills or experience with post-production processes
Previous work with educational content creators or platforms (Crash Course, Khan Academy, etc.)
Background in both journalism and legal practice or legal academia
Experience covering the current administration and recent political developments
Legal degree (J.D.) or formal legal education
Experience with audience analytics platforms and data-driven content decisions
Background in constitutional law, Supreme Court coverage, or appellate litigation
Existing network in legal journalism or educational content communities
Competitive compensation: $100k - $120k
