Job Overview

The Activation Engineer supports the deployment and testing of our voice, LTE, 5G, data, SASE, and SDWAN. Focus will be on our SASE and SDWAN. Additional requirements include but are not limited to, assisting with escalated trouble issues, migrations, audits, and product improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Deploy and configure branch network equipment, including firewalls, switches, access points, MPLS, and SD-WAN devices.

  • Understand routing protocols (eBGP, iBGP, OSPF, EIGRP).

  • Ensure SDWAN branches are redundantly connected to production datacenter resources with automatic response to failed paths.

  • Configure network traffic to prioritize critical network activities using QoS, CoS, DSCP, and other technologies.

  • Generate and maintain clear technical documentation and records.

  • Ability to interpret and follow SDWAN Implementation Plans.

  • Creation of as-built documentation.

  • Experience working in a Managed Service Provider (MSP) environment.

  • Work with Network Solutions Architects to become familiar with specific customer deployment scenarios.

  • Deploy and configure hardware and software as required for internal and customer support.

  • Abide by strict change management policies, both internal and external.

  • Availability to work outside regular business hours on weekdays and weekends, as needed and determined by Customers.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in LAN/WAN network administration in a managed services-oriented environment

  • Certifications desired but not required: Fortinet NSE4 or higher, Palo Alto PCNSE, and Cisco CCNA or CCNP, or higher.

  • Experience with configuring, deploying, troubleshooting, and managing the following Hardware and Software Systems:

  • ScienceLogic and SNMP.

  • Palo Alto Networks Prisma SD-WAN and ION Hardware devices (formerly Cloudgenix).

  • Palo Alto Networks PAN-OS.

  • Cisco Viptela SDWAN and Catalyst Switches, Routers (ISR, etc).

  • Cisco Meraki hardware and software.

  • Fortinet Fortigate firewalls, Fortimanager, Fortianalyzer, EMS, etc.

  • Cradlepoint Cellular Routers and NetCloud Manager.

  • Peplink Cellular Routers, Peplink InControl2, and Peplink SpeedFusion.

  • Cellular and Modern Mobility Networks - 3G, 4G LTE, 5G. Familiarity with SIM cards, including provisioning and troubleshooting.

  • AWS, Azure, Google Cloud environments.

  • VoIP, IP Phones, and SIP trunking. Experience with SONUS SBC is a plus.

  • LucidChart.

  • Experience supporting a distributed WAN with expert knowledge of the following: MPLS, IPSec Tunneling, BGP, and SD-WAN.

  • Experience deploying SASE services, including cloud firewall.

  • Integrating SD-WAN with cloud-delivered security services (e.g., CASB, ZTNA, SWG, FWaaS).

  • Expertise in network firewall technologies such as Fortinet, Palo Alto, and Cisco.

  • Experience supporting multiple LAN sites with knowledge of firewalls, routers, switches, Access Points, VLANs, Subnets.

  • The position requires an organized individual with great attention to detail.

  • Candidate must be capable of installing network equipment in a customer and/or data center environment.

  • Must be able to perform duties with limited supervision, be punctual, and be able to work in a remote team environment and collaborate; excellent interpersonal skills required.

  • Ability to work during non-standard business hours as required by management.

  • Excellent customer service skills and drive to see problems through to completion.
