About the Role
CapIntel is looking for a Backend Developer to help improve the performance, reliability, and scalability of our platform. You’ll contribute to back-end systems that power our product and support a seamless experience for our users. While this is primarily a backend role, familiarity with frontend frameworks is expected, and you may occasionally support frontend integration within our MERN stack.
Working alongside designers, product managers, and fellow developers, you’ll play an important role in developing features, improving APIs, and supporting the architecture that underpins our platform.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and maintain backend services using JavaScript or TypeScript, Node.js, and NoSQL databases.
- Design and support enterprise-level REST API integrations that are efficient, secure, and scalable.
- Write unit and integration tests to ensure stability and reliability of backend services.
- Collaborate with frontend developers to ensure seamless API consumption and feature delivery.
- Contribute to application deployment and monitoring on AWS, helping to improve system performance and reliability.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to backend development standards and best practices.
- Work with cross-functional teams to ensure backend solutions meet product and business requirements.
What You’ll Bring
- Backend Development: 4+ years of experience using JavaScript or TypeScript and Node.js to build scalable backend systems.
- Databases: Practical experience with MongoDB, PostgreSQL, or similar databases in a production environment.
- API Integration: Hands-on experience designing, building, and optimizing RESTful APIs, especially for enterprise use cases.
- Cloud Infrastructure: Familiarity with deploying and managing backend applications on AWS or similar cloud platforms.
- Testing & Code Quality: A strong focus on writing maintainable, well-tested code supported by unit and integration tests.
- Collaboration & Communication: Comfortable working cross-functionally and communicating technical concepts clearly and effectively.
Bonus Experience
- Familiarity with serverless architectures, such as AWS Lambda.
- Experience improving CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows.
- Experience using Python for backend scripting or data processing.

- Multiple Choice Technical Assessment: A general assessment of your JavaScript and coding skill sets, designed to evaluate your foundational technical knowledge.
- 30-Minute Video Call with a Talent Acquisition Partner: A conversation to get to know you better, discuss your experience and motivations, and explore your technical knowledge and alignment to the role.
- 75-Minute Live Coding Session: A hands-on coding session with a Team Lead or Engineering Leader. You’ll be tasked with solving a technical problem in real-time, where we’ll evaluate your coding skills, problem-solving abilities, and approach to optimizing code.
- 45-Minute Interview with a Member of Engineering Leadership: A deeper dive into your technical expertise, problem-solving abilities, and alignment with our team’s goals. This interview also focuses on your approach to collaboration and communication within a cross-functional environment.
