Altarum’s Division of Population Health is pleased to announce an opening for a Behavioral Health Crisis Technical Assistance (TA) Project Manager (PM). The Crisis Services TA Specialist/PM will be responsible for Altarum’s portfolio of behavioral health crisis services projects, serving as lead on large training and technical assistance contracts with the federal and state governments. This role includes supervising behavioral health staff, overseeing project work, and driving new business development. The TA specialist/PM will also establish and maintain positive client relationships, and identify and pursue new business opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Plan, conduct, and technically direct complex, cross-functional, and high-revenue projects, coordinating staff efforts.
- Demonstrate advanced subject matter expertise in behavioral health and crisis services and leverage the broader capabilities of Altarum.
- Provide expert consultation and solutions for clients independently.
- Develop curriculum and training materials, and deliver training for behavioral health workforce in a variety of settings.
- Offer leadership, guidance, and mentorship to behavioral health staff.
- Maintain an extensive network of contacts to assist with business development and funding efforts.
- Keep skills and knowledge of the focus area up to date through professional development and other educational methods.
- Collaborate with the Behavioral Health Program Director to lead strategy and innovation for the Behavioral Health focus area.
- Provide thought leadership, subject matter expertise, and project/client management capabilities as needed.
- Lead proposal efforts for federal, state, philanthropic, and other clients.
Qualifications
- Minimum of ten (10) years of work experience, including specific experience in behavioral health crisis services, policy, and programming.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience directing projects and managing staff.
- Bachelor’s Degree - Master’s degree in public health or a related field (preferred).
- Experience working with mid-level and senior clinical and/or administrative leaders in diverse settings.
- Experience providing technical assistance to federal and state agencies implementing policies and programs to improve behavioral health services.
- Preferred experience in leading evaluations of behavioral health policy and programs.
- Experience managing, coordinating, or contributing to large-scale proposal efforts.
- Principles of effective team leadership and mentoring.
- Proven ability to successfully lead teams to produce high-quality results for training and technical assistance projects.
- Ability to identify and lead teams to pursue strategies for new business growth.
- Successful provision of training and technical assistance.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail; flexibility to manage multiple priorities, sometimes simultaneously, under tight deadlines.
- Facilitation of meetings, day-long convenings, and other working sessions.
- Communication of behavioral health portfolio to funders, decision-makers, and lay audiences.
Logistical Requirements
- At this time, we will only accept candidates who are presently eligible to work in the United States and will not require sponsorship.
- Our organization requires that all work, for the duration of your employment, must be completed in the continental U.S. unless required by contract.
- If you are local to our offices in Arlington, VA, Silver Spring, MD, Novi, MI, or Portland, ME, this role will be hybrid (in office on Wednesdays - collaboration days).
- Must be able to work during eastern time unless approved by your manager.
- Employees working remotely must have a dedicated, ergonomically appropriate workspace free from distractions with a mobile device that allows for productive and efficient conduct of business.
- Willingness to travel approximately 8-10% of the year.
$98,660 - $119,072.10 a year

Individual compensation packages are based on numerous factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons. This salary range is not a guarantee of compensation, as the final offer amount will vary based on these factors.
