Position Summary:
The Carrier Compliance and Freight Claims Manager is responsible for ensuring that all motor carriers meet regulatory, insurance, and contractual requirements and for overseeing the timely and effective management of cargo claims. This role plays a critical part in protecting the company from legal and financial exposure by ensuring compliance with FMCSA regulations, internal policies, and customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
Carrier Compliance
Develop, maintain, enforce, and audit carrier onboarding protocols, including vetting via MyCarrierPackets, RMIS, SaferWatch, or equivalent platforms.
Ensure motor carriers meet all contractual, insurance (cargo, auto, general liability), and regulatory requirements (USDOT, MC, safety scores).
Monitor carrier safety ratings, authority status, insurance expirations, and revocations.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date carrier compliance records in TMS and other systems.
Audit and improve carrier onboarding workflows to reduce risk of double brokering and fraud.
Serve as the primary contact for carrier compliance audits and customer inquiries.
Freight Claims Management
Oversee the end-to-end freight claims process: from intake and investigation to filing, negotiation, and resolution.
Liaise with insurance companies, carriers, customers, and attorneys as needed.
Document and track all claims in the TMS and claims management system.
Analyze root causes of claims to identify risk patterns and propose corrective actions.
Ensure timely submission and response to all cargo claims and disputes in compliance with Carmack and industry best practices.
Maintain strong documentation standards for recovery and legal compliance.
Qualifications:
Bachelorโs degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, Risk Management, or related field preferred.
3โ5 years of experience in freight claims, carrier compliance, or logistics risk management.
Deep knowledge of FMCSA, DOT regulations, cargo insurance, and freight liability.
Familiarity with TMS, MyCarrierPackets, RMIS, or similar compliance platforms.
Strong analytical and investigative skills with high attention to detail.
Ability to work cross-functionally and communicate with legal, operations, and external partners.
Excellent negotiation, writing, and interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred Skills:
Experience working in a freight brokerage or 3PL environment.
Knowledge of claim types (e.g., shortage, damage, theft) and subrogation processes.
Understanding of fraud prevention techniques related to double brokering or unauthorized rebrokering.

% of carriers meeting insurance minimums (e.g., $250K cargo)
